Datagrid - date column?

Hi all - I've got data coming from a db into my datagrid fine, but one of the columns is a list of dates. If you click on sort by on the date column, it sorts the numbers by the first number, ie 12/2/04, 14/1/04, 15/12/03 etc

Is there a way of telling flash that this particular column is a date column and to sort it appropriately?
