Hi,
I am building a web site all in Flash for a band, they bought the domain name etc.
The problem is - they want a message forum...
but I have just found out their web domain does not include any database of any sort. Would they have to buy one seperately or is there a way around it?
Also, they want an area where they can list their upcoming gigs - and with no knowledge of flash or anything they would have to upload it independently - so they need this bit to be simple
Im new to the whole database thing and was going to learn as I go but Im already stumped now!

Howdy and Welcome... :)
You DO require to have a host that supports PHP/MySQL if you want phpBB or vBulletin board... So, have your client buy a host that supports those features...
Also, they want an area where they can list their upcoming gigs - and with no knowledge of flash or anything they would have to upload it independently - so they need this bit to be simple
When you say 'gig' what do you mean by that??? Are you talking about some articles and photos??? That will require you build your own custom interface where your client can go in and update/upload the content... That will take some time to build if you are new to the server side scripting...
There are some ready made ones out there, but I have not seen any for Flash site yet... (I heard that there are some out there...) But you will need to customize them to fit your client's need...

Thanks for that. I will let them know that they need to get someone with a database to host their site.
By gigs I mean an area that they can tell people when they are next performing, so it will need to be updated regularly. - Ill start looking for the ready-mades then!!
Thanks for your help!

As I was saying, you have to either follow what's going on with the ready made scripts(look for CMS when searching for it) or you do need to create your own... :)
As for the hosting, there are lots out there... Even I can provide the hosting... What I am saying is that you've got to find somebody who's reliable because providing a host is really easy, but providing good service is not... :)
