My flash game is able to run at 70-75 fps while being tested if flash mx 2004
however when in an html page it manages to run a measly 50 fps doing the same exact action. What could cause such a problem, is it a version difference on the flash player? And if it is, im sure other people of have the same player, Do i have to resort to time based movement?

the flash player plugin is slower than the stand alone player.

on a side note, I hope the final game isnt running at that frame rate.

(DUH!) that has been bothering me forever, thank you. Why do you hope final game isnt running at ~50 fps.

because it will bog down the client and cause a greater differentiation of playback speed between them.

so what is the highest reasonable frame rate?

the lower the better. I wouldnt go above 30. I usually use 24 for interactive work and 18 for animation/presentations.

Sounds reasonable, thanks for your help.

what about having smooth animations? i usually work at 60 fps, just because the animations look a lot smoother.

If you are making them for the purpose of running them on your own system, then you can choose whatever frame rate suits you best. But if you are making your movies for the real world, you have to target the frame rate that is appropriate for your intended audience.
