Hi,
I have a game built using AS 2. When playing the file using "test movie" or playing the file through the standalone player I get a solid 30 frames per second. However, once i embed the movie in an html page the FPS drops to 20 or less.
Is this normal?
Are there any tips to use in the html embed tag to improve performance?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Do you have a proper preloader?
hi and welcome to As.Org
yes the stand alone player is faster
don't think you can do anything to make it faster (html)

Also check if your html page isn't too hard for browser (I mean lots of images and similar things)

thanks for the responses! It is a blank html page with only the embed/object tags and it is properly preloaded. I guess I've just never noticed that the stand-alone player is that much faster than the plugin.
Does anyone know if using the built in tween classes (or Rob Penner's tweens) affects performance negatively?

One more guess: maybe you haven't updated your flash plugin in the browser still? :)

I built a poker game @ 60 FPS (like all my other .FLAs), with some AS coded tweens for Hand draws and discards, and also some slide-in information windows. It's running so smooth in local mode, AWESOME!
However, once it's on the website, its framerate drops by ~40% percent of the original 60 FPS ran in local mode (or in flash player). It's just "okay".
:( This is bad for web games projects, as it seems it can't actually be "as fast as you intended to build it" by "providing it in some HTML (or PHP) page". Even high-end computers can't run the game close to 60 FPS in HTML pages... I've read it's the way the Flash plugin is done, as it doesn't manage memory as the Flash Player or Flash MX does.
I know that under Linux, their Flash plugin is quite faster. :)
Anyway, I'm still searching for answers regarding this performance matter over web pages. The information isn't so obvious to find and not all solutions work.
I'm one of those games veteran that can't bear much to play choppy animated games... My 2005 projects are meant to be fast-paced action web games (Fla's framerate between 48 and 60). I guess I'll hit my head couple of times this year (to satisfy my users with the games fluidity)... Maybe it is better to make "quieter" (but smooth) games for now.
I hope the next Flash plugin updates will get things smoother. Maybe the best alternative for now would be to provide the game in a standalone form so people can run it in the Flash Player... with all the risks that imply  .
Sorry for the bad english... secondary language. ;)
Peace!
I read somewhere, (macromedia maybe?) that anything above 30fps is just wasted on MOST computers. The video memory isn't that powerful on most PCs. I don't do anything above 25fps.
