So after taking some of the suggestions from some of you a while back, I redid the annoying part(s) - the intro basically.

here's the new site:

new hvtech (http://www.harvard.tc/newharvard)

how is it?

Get rid of the flash intro. Just use the HTML that you have on the other parts of the site. The HTML looks 100 times better. There's no need for the intro.

but i can't! the boss wants a new look, the intro can't go. I may take it off eventually...

Basically the flash part is for displaying the latest courses and photographs of past sessions. If I can figure out a way to put all that in one screen that doesn't involve flash, I might convince my manager to let go of the intro. any ideas?

I have an idea. Does anyone know of any sites that are on on the same creative level as my site? I criticize better when it's other people's work

its a big intro.. i'm talking about resolution size, and you can't resize it either which would be a downside for anyone looking at the site with a low screen res like 1024*768 even

and the classroom picture that just slides in? seemed a bit pointless to me as it hides the infomation that is there

-my thoughts :)

i think the window is just too big. there is no need so get rid of it.

the intro resizes according to resolution, it's not too big. If by saying it's too big you are implying that it fills the screen even at higher resolutions then it's doing it's job. I've tried it on 800x600 up to 1280x1024 and it looks fine. I actually made the intro fill the screen on purpose because I needed to figure out how to do it in the best way possible. If it doesn't work then I'm in trouble because I will be making more flash content in the future.

any of you using 56k? I'd be interested to know how fast the intro loads for the 56k users. The first part is 71k with each image being 20k approx.
what about firefox and mozilla? are you using those?

So I get that the intro needs to go, but I actually can't think of how to put the highlights, news and the slideshow on the html design and make them fit in one screen. HTML scrollers look very tacky to me, they remind me of the old javascript heavy pages with the javascript effects and stuff. If I put the text from the highlights section straight on the page it would fill 3 pages, a lot of scrolling.

thanks for your comments, guess I won't put this site on my portfolio :p

I took out the flash intro and used an html front page.

What do you guys think?
