hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with an effect I"m trying to re-create. check out: http://www.iconique.com/flash/style-edition13.html I would like to use some similar masking in a project I"m working on and was wondering if anyone could help me out on where to start. I've been using flash for a little while. I can understand some more advanced actionscripting but can't create it on my own very well yet.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jenny :p

I feel your pain. I am somewhat of a noob. I started out with Flash in 1998 back when Flash 4 (i think) was the version - and I was not very good, but I was poking and searching everywhere to find code that I could plug and tweak for my thing to work. Stuck with hacked flash animation for 1.5 years and always wanting to be like Balthaser or 2advanced.com (at the time) but seeing all the wonderful and awesome animations just got me frustrated - why can't I do that?! I would ask myself.
I was then hired as a ASP developer and the company hated flash, so it forced me to learn programming and database manipulation. And that was a blessing in disguise because ASP is like PHP and Flash and PHP are firends. The programming also open my mind to OOP (object oreiented programing) concepts.
3 months ago, I started this new, FANTASTIC job where people treat me like a person, a friend and a professional. And they LOVE flash. So I am desperately and sometimes frantically trying to get myself back to speed. Sooo many changes have occured since my previous Flash life.
So Jenny - my advice is to think OO and think Objects talking and listening to eachother. Start slow, read and try examples. I also suggest MAKING SURE the content you read includes AS 2.0.
So enough about me... the masking effects are all different and you should look into for loops, drawing shapes with AS, tweening with AS.
