Hey everybody,
I had an idea for an app in flash and I wanted to know what you guys thought about it and what would be the best way to go about it. I want to create a program that will load a list of musicians/artists (into a tree component?? off to the left, like Windows Explorer.) and under their name would be sub-catagories with their albums, and then subcatagories with the songs in those albums. And when you finally get to a song, you click on it and on the right it would display the chord sheet for that song, such as... http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_chords_songs.php?ida=15 .

As you can see formatting is kind of critical. And also it would play an MP3 of the song so you can play along with it. I had a couple of ideas of how to go about this, but I wanted to know what you guys thought would be the most efficiant. So far, since I don't want it to have to be an online app, I thought XML would be great as a database. And it should be easy for the user to add and remove songs they want. And for displaying the formatted text... well I haven't really found an efficiant way to do this yet. My first thought was PDF but takes to long to load. then I thought RTF... but not sure if flash does RTFs... then I figuired every songs needs to be a SWF file. But then I would need a Rich Text interface for the user to add a song into.

Anyway your thoughts and comments are appreciated on this project. And please let me know if you can think of an efficiant (preferably offline) way of doing this in flash. thanks alot!
