variables dissapear under mask

Hi

I've set up a masked map which scrolls nicely. So, there's a "map" movie clip (with variables on the map) inside a "mask" movie clip. Whenever I do the mask, the variables dissappear in the movie, when I disable the mask, they reappear. Is this a glitch in Flash?

For anyone with the same problem, Macromedia says this:

Reason
Only text fields whose font outlines have been embedded in a published SWF can be masked. By default, font outlines for dynamic and input text fields are not included in the published movie. For those types of fields, Flash Player relies on the playback system to provide font information. These "device fonts", as they are called, cannot be masked since they are not embedded in the SWF. This issue does not affect static text fields whose font outlines, by default, are included in the published SWF.
