I'd love to get my quicktime movies to open like the sites below. I've searched several places, but no luck.
At least not an answer I could understand.

Thanks so very much.
All the best.
the first example is not qt within flash, its just qt embedded in html...
to bring video into flash, you need to convert it to a fla, or just import the qt into flash as a video object, search this forum , this has been asked alot of times...
cheers

thanks for the response.
i have tried converting it into the flash movie and the quality is quite. i will continue to search the forum. I must be missing something. Not seeing the snake that's about to bite me it seems.

Sorry to ask this again, but I searched all last night and I must be very dense. Most of the responses to similar question are to "search the forum because this question has been asked a lot" I must have the terminology incorrect. I have tried embedding the .mov file and placing on the stage so the timeline shows all the frames, and this made the size of the flash file very large and the quality was not so good. I have also converted the video to flv and used the media application, but the quality was really poor.
What I would ideally want, is something like the media application, but instead to putting a .flv file in the url box, I would put my .mov file that has been uploaded.
Thanks again

You can't load .mov files like that...you'll have to convert it to FLV and either use the NetStream classes with a Video objetc, or use the Media components...
What are you using to convert the video to FLV?I f the quality is poor, you probably just need to play around with the export settings...

get quicktime pro. it doesn't make flv files but you can mess with the quality of it there. also, when you import it to flash put it at the highest streaming quality. at least that's what i would try.
i have my own flv question since i'm a new at it as well. mine doesn't want to play sound haha. the .mov file i important to make it from does have sound but does flash not import sound with .mov files? if not i'll convert it to .avi or .mpeg.

If you're using QuickTime Pro you can download the FLV Exporter which acts as a plug in that will allow QT to export FLV files:

hopefully that'll fix my sound problem.

Or, if you want .movs playing without converting first, do it like that first site. Make your page have two frames, one for the flash movie, one for the quicktime clip. Then when you click something in flash that loads a movie, call a javascript function in the enclosing html page that loads a new page in the quicktime frame.

Well I guess I did it... but the quality of the videos in really poor. I can't seem to find the way to change the flv export setting in mx2004. I demoed flix, and got similar results.
please let me know your thoughts on how you would improve the quality.

ok i don't know what everyone else things but i think that's rather good quality considering it's for streaming over the net. a website isn't what people are going to go to so they can see the intrecate details, especially on a screen so small. if they what high ress you give them a dvd or vcd. so as for quality, i think it's just fine myself.
did you try importing it at higher quality?

this was at the highest import. Can't say for the export into flv, as it just does it. But the dif. from a .mov file downloaded for the server is huge. I guess I just have to decide between poor quality embeded and better quality QT popup
thanks

um... you can embed a .mov file. i know i've done it. you just import it to the stage on it's own layer. it just makes your file size gigantic. of course if you preload that it won't be as bad but still... what i recommend you do, after seeing your site, is have them be able to preview the clip as an flv file then if they want to see the entire thing full spectacular make it downloadable or launch in say quicktime or windows media player whatever your fancy... http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/Opening_Files_from/index.shtml this is one way to do it or just link it to a .zip file or have the link directly to the .mov file. i haven't done the second way but if they tell it to open it should just... well open in whatever program they want.
