Very cool. Is work picking that up for you?

Yup... That's the reason why I am going there... Otherwise... I'd just stick to, uh, AS 1.0 forever... Not that I am going to learn much about the OOP and whatnot though... My brain probably needs hammer and chizzle for that... :D

Wow, so you actually get to meet the guy....ooohhh...I'd be too scared to talk to him :o

Tell him to visit here sometime, or is he already a member and just doesn't post often??

I actually went a few months ago... a great time.

He's a very down to Earth person, and not only knows his stuff but is very good at explaining complex themes at a very basic level.

Enjoy!

Hmmmm. Not sure if I'd benefit...although a day of Design Patterns would be fun.

Only design patterns you need to ever know are Singleton and Bridge. I would also add that Actionscript is possible the worst langauge to learn OOD (partly because it's still more ECMA than strictly typed / OOP based).

any language would be bad to learn "OOD" ;)

let us know how it goes CyanBlue. I can't wait for you to be in AS2.0 land - I'm sure it will become simple for you after a short time.

I'm currently trying to talk my boss into sending me to SIGGRAPH. I'm not gonna get my hopes up, though...

Man that guy must be soooo loaded. I have like 2 or 3 of his books at like $40 a pop, plus he keeps coming out with new ones with each new technology.

is there a trick to navigating http://www.moock.org/ ? I found out nothing opens till you click the flashinc mouse icon. When you click a section it just says "Please wait", 15 minutes later the broswer is still open and hasnt opened the section.

loads fine for me. what browser, flashplayer, OS do you have?

IE6, FP7, winXP.

edit- only thing I can think of is it is doing some funky security stuff that the firewalls here are denying. I dunno, just guessing at thispoint.

I just right click the screen when it comes up, and press "play". I think his fla must have a stop action in the beginning that makes it wait for something (don't know what it's waiting for, but hitting play seems to make it skip it)

that worked.

I think his books are great but having a website like that doesnt really help people trust your expertise if they don't know ya.

Unless of course it was designed for only flashd evelopers that know you can right click and push play to force it to continue?

Think that was his goal. If I showed that to my sister shed give me a look like "what the hell is this supposed to be?? Why are there arrows all over the screen?" lol...sisters

It's called a poorly designed site and for some reason because it's in flash that means making it impossible for users to use... a good example to us all.

Ouch..harsh...

Maybe CB could talk to him when he goes. I'm sure theres a reasonable explanation for why it acts the way it does. But you have to admit, it's still pretty cool the way he integrated Unity into it. I love the way you can see other people's pointer on the screen at the same time as yours...though in his new site it is rather hard to tell which cursor is yours, since they all look alike

OOD??? There is no language that can make our life easier with that... :D

splict... Just because I go there, that does not mean that I will be stepping into the AS 2.0 world... Well... I might talk him back into the AS 1.0 world... :D

Siggraph sounds great... Loads of fun and new ideas flying around... Hope you get that opportunity... ;)

Though unemployed, I may be in ROC for Memorial Day weekend. It doesn't seem TOO pricey. Think it might be worth it for the little likes of me?
