Straight from the homepage News entry marked today:
We've created some small plugins for Firefox which let you add ActionScript.org's various search engines into your Firefox quick search drop down list. You can now search our forums, library and site in general in just one click. Find them here (http://actionscript.org/firefox/search_plugins.shtml).
Note that we can update the icon and functionality automatically: Firefox will check our site very 3 days for an update, the system is really smart.
Please post any bugs/comments/suggestions here.
Graphically skilled people: if you want to help us out you could make a 16x16 gif icon which suits one or more of the search plugins. At the moment we use a crappy little 'org' icon which I made in Paint in 2 minutes :)

Nope. Firefox only at this stage. Mainly because the template for making a Firefox plugin is open source and just XML.

You can prolly install it but just don't make it the primary browser. Links and stuff wills till open in IE. I have converted my PC to it totally though, and all my extended family and friends :)

I got a bunch of Mozilla stuff. I use Thunderbird (really cool email program by the way) which automatically integrates itself with Firefox so I can actually send email from Firefox without having to open my email program, and it tells me how many new messages I have in my email inbox right from firefox, as well as the Gmail notifier which is simply the cooest thing ever!! :D
I also got FoxyTunes installed so I can groove and post here without having to mess around with Windows Media Player :D

Yeah I'd use thunderbird too but I'm too dependant upon Outlook :) Plus Thunderbird doesn't synch with my PocketPC. Major functionality impairment IMHO, though I understand the limitations or proprietary formats, etc. So many ppl want it if you search the web.

I wrote a sitewide search one too which integrated with the 'branded' Google results page you get from searching using the search box on the bottom of all the (non-forum) pages. I realized it might be an issue for Google though and disabled it while I asked. They said it is and we can't use it at this time.
I'm thinking we can set up a normal, non branded version which literally just takes you to Google with the "site:www.acttionscript.org" addition to whatever you search for... Think that'd be useful? It'll search everything, including tutorials, library and forums in one, and shouldn't be against their Terms and Conditions.

Yeah, that would be easy...you can actually do it via google already:
Google search these terms...
"LoadVars site:www.actionscript.org/forums" << search forums
"LoadVars site:www.actionscript.org/tutorials" << search tutorials
"LoadVars site:www.actionscript.org/actionscripts_library" << search the library
etc...

Yeah it's easy enough to do but I see more merit in using the Forums/Library specific searches for those purposes. The Google one is easy to code - in fact I did it on day one when I made these plugins. But then I decided the branded search was better because it had the ActionScript.org logo on the top and stuff :)
Think I will update the Google one to just use normal rather than branded Google. Better to have the feature there as an option than not at all. If people want to do it the slightly longer way with the Google plugin, they can :)
OK seems that it doesn't install anything on my firefox...
I have the 1.6.
Any idea?
I'm clicking the link->asking if I want to install-> yes -> nothing happens
I run both IE and Firefox. I did grow up on Microsoft, (*hides in shame*). But the plugins sound cool.
Hey Eric, werent you doing some plugins for firefox and AS[org]?
EDIT: I clicked to install and nothing happened.....???

Works for me. I just deleted the plugsin from my PC and did them again (Fox 1.06). It's added 2 more options to the quick search to the right of the address bar. Where you have the Google G by default, click it to see the other options.
I'll give it another try. Have you considered making a toolbar for IE? I could probably generate a basic one if you were to piont the specifics of what you wanted.
Ok, work here too. Didn't see the other option (what a shame :) )
C ya ;)
Yeah, it works....I'm just mildly retarded....
Are you talkimg to me? ...ARE U TALKING TO ME ?
:P
I dont know, was I.....I'm alittle slow tonight...well I hope I was talking to you, or else I was talking to myself and that would make me look crazy...

Yeah I noticed that after writing that article. I've asked Strok to look into creating new ones which will be compatible with FF2 and IE7 apparently, using the new open, standard format. I'll ask him to post here when done.
