hi CyanBlue and Xeef,

Well I have visited many forums but never been asked for money in regarding the solution, this is for the first time..Forums are there to help users and spread knowledge, ok if a person is looking for a freelance job then he can register his posts on a section which is dedicated to freelance jobs. In Actionscript.org there is not a single section given to freelance jobs, there should be one where people like XEEF can ask for money instead of helping for free. One more thing 'Immediate help' doesn't mean that the help is required within that day, it depends on the users how they take it. In the end I must say that moderators should open a section for the freelance job hunters so that they [freelancers] ALSO can earn money.

Yep, rarely do any people here ask for money before doing something, the only time I've actually seen someone get paid for doing something on the forums is when the person who needs the work done actually says in their thread or the title of the thread that they will pay for the help. Xeef or CB would never seriously say "I'll help you with your problem, but you need to pay me for it" in a thread. I looked at Xeef's post...had a good laugh, and then had to leave, but I knew he was just joking :D

Also, along with Xeef, it's not a good idea to create a thread that just says "Urgent, need help now", unless of course it's titled "Urgent, need by tomorrow...willing to pay $$", which is annoying, but it will definitly get your question answered. Whenever I see a thread with the title "Urgent, need help immediately", I might look at it, but even if I know the answer I won't post. Gives the thread starter the idea that starting a thread like that will work, which isn't really the best thing. Whenever I can't think of a thread title I just write down some keywords, something like "LoadVars,RSS,sendAndLoad??" the reader might not know what my problem is, but at least if they don't have a clue what "LoadVars" is, they won't bother reading it. Only people who knew exactly what the 3 keywords mean would bother reading it, and those would be the people who could answer the question...make sense ;)

I can see your point shan9211....but all I will say is this. If guys like CyanBlue, Xeef, tg, FreddyCodes, Oldnewbie, and the countless others refused to help without being paid, AS[org] would collapse. They arent at AS[org] for the money, they're here to help, at least to the best of my knowledge. The term is "community", through that community we all learn and grow, which in turn, we take the knowledge out into the world were we make our living.

maybe we can all ease off on the poor title choice (i've seen some as bad before). to get an idea of whats going on,
shan9211 used a poor title, xeef gave him hell (well not really) by poking fun at it by mentioning helping quickly for a price. and shan9211 didn't really get the jokes intent. then to top it all off, cb closed the post and stuck it in detention... seems a bit extreme for a poor title.

First of all thanx to TG for supporting and understanding me, secondly I just want to say that don't give such blunt comments in your reply that the other person can't resist it, if you don't wanna help then simply don'tpost your reply. And if you want to tell about the 'title of the post' stuff then you can tell it in a better manner also, this will not create such kinda confusion and fight. I like this website and I know that this is the place where I will get my answers but getting a reponse like this makes a person think twice whether he should visit this site again or not. In the end I must say that AC.org is a wonderful site and keep up the good work but please do avoid such kinda things which happened with me. And once again thanx TG ;)

I don't think Xeef's answer was mean at all...it was pretty darn hilarious in my opinion :D He was just making fun of the title of the thread, no harm, no foul ;)

Best way to get answers:

1 - Title your thread well, or at least so people will know what to expect when they view it.

2 - Post it once, in the right forum. Posting multiple times in different sections makes me (and probably other people) just skip right over it.

3 - Don't PM people and tell them to look at your thread (UNLESS you have gotten many replies trying to answer your question and still are unable to solve it), that just makes people not want to look at your thread ever.

Believe it or not...#2 and #3 happened today to me. Someone had 2 posts, both were the beginning of the same thread in different sections. They PM'd me and told me "I heard you were the best person at flash, can you solve this?" BAM!!...NO HELP FOR YOU!!! :p

I thought iRobot was pretty cool...a little lacking in the acting department, but the whole theory behind the story was pretty cool, after Isaac Asimov wrote the book, he realized that what happened in the movie would probably happen in real life (robots naturally evolve), so he added the fourth law of robotics, the infamous "Zeroth" law, which extends the first law and protects humanity as a whole instead of just a single person. He predicted that if the robots evolved, they would consider humans a threat to their own existence, which was the robots whole purpose (to protect human existence). .....too much emotion, this is just a forum, as long as anyone gets their answer it shouldn't matter whether or not a few posters throw out a couple of fat mom jokes or any other statements inbetween the answer to your problem in my opinion...it would be a good laugh, especially when you post anything worth making fun of :). Often times posting in multiple threads would conflict with the first law. You shouldn't post a question about PHP in the Flash MX forum...it's in the second part of the first law :p

2. give as much info abouth your problem as you have but not more then nececary
code exmples are always nice (use the AS tag !!!)
3. You aren't more important then any body else so PLS prevent the usage of

4. the ancers we give will not just help you but others too, if they later have the
same problem and search for it, PM's can't by searched

The laws in my sig are supposed to resemble Isaac Asimovs 3 Laws of robotics. Obviously I can't fit everything into 3 laws, but it wouldn't exactly remind someone of the 3 laws of roboticsif there was 5 laws, eh?? Don't know how close they come, but I figure anyone who has heard of the 3 laws and knows them fairly well by memory would be able to get the joke :D How close do you think they are?
