hello everyone... first post on this forum.

had a question regarding viewing .swf's on a pc vs mac. for some reason, my swf's run slower on a mac than a pc. i made the file originally on a pc. the macs ive been viewing on are g4's so i dont think thats the problem. has anyone heard of this problem or know of a solution? thanks in advance....

ps- im using flash 5 if it makes a difference

Hi,

For some reason, despite the fact that Macs are graphics machines, have much more reliable graphics editing software, and have been trusted by designers since the move from pens and paper, they still seem to have problems with some flash movies over 24 fps.

Interestingly I haven't had the same problem on iMacs.

I don't think there's a solution other than to reduce the frame rate of the movie. The other way that solved it once (but didn't another time) was to pass the file onto a mac, open it in Flash and re-publish it. The conclusion I drew from this was that my particular PC was incapable of doing it's job, but maybe it's a standard problem developing Flash on the PC.??

cheers.

Hi,

Should be no problem at 12 fps!!!!

Either something else is in there messing things up (unlikely), or there's a problem with the mac. Is it a very significant difference?

Here's a thought how about speeding it up slightly, to say 14 fps?

Also post it in the site check forum to make sure it's not the Mac you're using.

cheers.

Haven't read this post but if it's a speed problem on a Mac (common) try reducing your JPEG publish quality to 0% in Flash Publish Settings. It will make almost no difference to the appearance.

i think that newer macs do ok with .swfs but i have a bondi blue g3 at work that is slow as molasses. it even has like 500 something mb of ram but web animation creeps on it.

the thing that kills me about macs is the color display on the web. things washout completely when converted in photoshop etc... the display on a PC while much harsher and contrasted is more consistent in the development process for web graphics. For print work the mac is closer to what you get when you output to highend printers (on those little laser printers it's anybody's guess what you'll get).

Its hard to predict the actual colors from computer to printer anyway. Here at work we have about 12 different printers, from deskjet to color laser and every single one of them prints a little different.

Really annoying ... Also, PAL colors tend to be more consistend than NTSC ... Okay, a bit off-topic ..

Isn't there a patch for MAC trubbles on the macromedia site ? It didn't really state which problems, but perhaps when u go to the download page ?

It' basicly a Mac problem. Due to the fact that in the system there is this... you can turn off or on, but is by default on... It's stupid. What it comes down to: It will always play at a framerate of 12, even if you specified it to be 24 or more.
I have a double 450 mhz G4 processor, but when watching flash-movies it look like the slowest machine imaginable.

I've read a tech-note about it on the Macromedia site, unfortunatly I wasn't working on my machine and now I can't find it back. I asked about the tech-note on the flash forum of Macromedia a few times, but no reply.
It's driving me nuts.
