I have a toshiba laptop thats "fairly" new.. 5 months old but what I realize is that when I use full cpu power or even a little bit less 2.4 ghz - 3.06 ghz, after a while the laptop automatically shuts down. It runs perfectly fine on the lowest CPU level available @ 1.8 Ghz. Just wondering if this is a common occurence with laptop or should I reallly bring it in for repairs.
My assumption is that when it gets fairly hot, it has a mechanism that shuts off the cpu and closes the computer.
so have you done a search on toshiba's site?
how are you changing the cpu levels? what level did the laptop come as stock? if your overclocking your laptop, you need to expect to have problems occur.

toshiba has a built in program that lets me alter the cpu speed from max 3.06 to as low as 1.8
3 levels basically: 1.8 2.4 3.06
ill do a search now ;)

It took 4 months of working as a coop to save up for it (cause I have to pay tuition and rent)
really needed a laptop cause I commute alot during school term back and forth from school and my parents home

If you can't build yourself I would get a dell. If you are running less then 2ghz and 512ram you need to upgrade :)

heh. its a home computer, not a work computer.... its one i cobled together from parts about 3 years ago.... maybe it is time to upgrade.

hehe its like being an intern but with a different name. Although coops gets a decent salary. I work 4 months as a coop den 4 months as a university student for 5 years before I can graduate.
btw do interns get paid?

matters on the conditions. My company pays our interns but alot of companies don't
all interns are paid in actual real life experience.... the best pay of all.

haha. That's pretty funny. I'll tell that to my next intern and hopefully his/her landlord feels the same way. :)
Reason that is funny to me is because anytime we get an intern we all give them the data entry stuff and they really don't get into anything fun. They basiaclly get clean up duty or the stupid work none of us want to do.

Yes that stinks :(
Luckily in my two previous work terms, I was able to do some amazing stuff
This term started out okay, doing some Oracle SQL, Sharepoint Server.

that should be by altering the bus speed. this is how we used to overclock when i was 12 and the world was 8086 territory
slowing the FSB down will result in a colder cpu, meaning a more stable machine
ps 90% of machine allow you to overclock or under clock them on a bios level

Im betting thats what it is too.
Every couple of months I have to crack mine open and clean it out because of dust and animal hair (cats and dogs + dusty env. arent good for lappies). Otherwise, it'll start shutting itself down, espeically when playing games like UT and Doom3. After a good cleaning its good to go.
Other cooling solutions help too though.

set up a chair in front of the fridge.... and use the second shelf of the fridge as the desktop for your laptop.
