View Full Version : Font Problems when using Dynamic Text

I have experienced this problem a number of times during different situations whilst using Flash MX 2004. Today I was trying to put in some actionscript I got off the internet which displayed the date and time. The actionscript sent the relevant data to a dynamic text field on my movie. The code worked fine, and sure enough I had date and time displayed, but the font had changed. The problem I seem to be having is that every time I use dynamically inputted text, the font becomes a device font, rather than the Courier New font that I had selected. I don't see how Courier New would be a problem as it's a common font, and it works elsewhere in my movie in normal text fields.
Is this a common problem? Does Flash purposely make dynamic text use device fonts? If so, is there a way around it? Any advice is greatly received.
Thanks,
Jon

i don't know what a device font is, but NO. you proberly need to embed your fonts. search for how to do it here. Also, any links and actionscript you gave give will help determine what the problem is

Do I need to embed fonts even when I am just testing the movie? I thought that wasn't an issue until I put it on the net, but I'll look into it, thanks.
In case it is of any help, here is a link to the code I was using: http://www.entheosweb.com/Flash/digital_clock.asp
And by device font, I mean system font, or at least I think I do.

Thanks for the zip file, I got that working fine, but I am having trouble using the same methods to work on my existing flash document. I tried to create a new flash movie using exactly the same actionscript you used, and it didn't work! I can't work out why, any ideas?

you didn't set up the linkage in the library. check it out.

Ahh I see. How do I get a font into the library then? Please forgive my inferior knowledge, despite what it may seem, I have tried to solve these problems myself!

don't forget to search the forums for your answers first!
right side of library click the down arrow.
click new font.
