onMouseevent is gray

thank you for looking at this.
i'm attempting to assign on mouse event to a button and it is grayed out. also, with does not give me an on release action. what should i be doing differently? thank you again, addison

If you can't assign mouse events your button probably isn't a button or you're doing it wrong.
You should create your button then drag a copy of it from the library (ctrl L) onto the main stage. Then right click on the button and go to Actions. Then you should be able to enter your mouse even data.

I had the same problem in my very first flash! click on your button once THEN look at your "on mouse event" ...it should have turned active now !
