View Full Version : restaurant website for a friend
hi guys, A friend asked me if I could make a nice site for his restaurant. So I have made a start. I really want it to be brilliant for him, so anything you think so far that is bad, or good. Please let me know. At the moment its on a slow server while im building it so you may have to wait a few seconds before it loads.

looks like a good start, but I would recommend faster framerates. On any flash site you see where you just stare at it with your jaw on the floor you will notice the fps is always quick. The animations will just fly by.
I love some of the effects on http://www.pixelgarage.net , look at how fast some of the stuff is.

Perhaps 3 to 5 years design training would help! - yuk! Horrible colours, no layout and clunky programming......

The photographs are nice, but the site still needs a lot more color. It's very very red. I would find a complimentary color to use along with all the red and pink, like gold, or silver, or maybe green for the whole Italian restourant feel.
Also, the first page we see after the intro movie loads, which has a few sentences about the resourant, does not have much authority. It looks like one of the pages that should be deeper in your site. I would recomend insering a title on top (like you do "online booking" & "contact"), but make it a little bit bigger, so you really know you are looking at the front page when you see it.
I like the intro, nice and simple.

I think you need to sort your own site out before you start making comments like that.

thankyou my friend, I will see if I can include some gold/yellow in there somewhere although it is going to be quite tricky to make it work.

Wow, perhaps I just hit a bad time...but the site totally crashed when I opened it. The text box at the bottom of the loading bar is too small for all the text to be seen. The loading bar gradually got bigger horizontally until it got to 96%. Then it just stopped. The page never loaded, but the loading bar started to grow vertically! It gradually kept growing and growing until there was a huge white vertical bar across the entire screen.
I tried to load it again, but the loading bar froze at 31%, and I didn't stick around to see what would start growing next :-)
Perhaps I'll come back later :-)
lol yeah I just noticed that was happening, Ive fixed it now though :) and the reason it stopped... its on my test server (uploads at 30kb/s :) - cant handle more than 1 person at once downloading it) but i will upload it to my proper server soon.
I have changed the background to white.. maybe its better and also speeded it up somewhat, fixed a few visual errors in the moving top and bottom... let me kno wat you think
cheers

I think its better practice to use new swf for every submenu u have.. I have DSL and still loads really slow (cca 1 min). Maybe u should consider some other colors to go with this theme? You could try black or maybe some orange..

could do although I dont think it would make much difference, the pictures cause it to be a lot larger and they load in the first opening screen.
Also my test server is mega slow so its not surprising....
anyway, I have added orange to the bars, i think it looks ok, anyone got any other ideas?
thanks a lot guys, this is really helpful
