I know a little actionscript, and need to know the best method for comfortable coding.I have a grasp of the pinciples of variables ( in theory) holding values and the like, but i hav'nt the confidence to produce a mainly actionscript based piece of flash work.

I presume you've all been there, but how'd you finally crack it, or set yourself on the road to.

Will be most greatfull for any assistance

I started out making very ugly but functional movies with lots of text fields and buttons so that I could test my button actions and have their changes visually represented on the screen.
From there I moved on to simple game programming as it impliments basic logic which you will need to use in navigation also. Games are good because you don't have to come up with your own idea, as with navigation. You can just take your favourite old-school game and try and rehash it.

In flash, getting experience with various projects is the only way you have any chance to learn all the possible uses of the huge number of available functions (flash 5 especially). If you can't think up your own ideas, checkout people's problems and see if you can solve them. I really taught myself by helping others.

Programming is a way of thinking, not a form of english. I try to tell everyone this. The more practice you get programming simple logic (like 'if'/'else' events are a good place to start), the better programmer you will be.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply for help.
Although im much more design orinantated,im very aware of the need to understand the filling in the pie.I can to a relativley large degree ,loosly understand actionscript when i read it, like the functions of actions such as looping, the settings of propertys(I have a similar understanding of Director lingo with a loose understanding of list/parent scripts/handlers e.t.c,but am more comfortable with it) but its the contruction of it (as it stands now i use 10 lines of code when im sure 1 or 2 will do, e.g:like using 10 or so concurrent "tell targets")

Im sorry to babble on, but i feel like im on the very edge of at least getting to grips with both Director & Flash coding. Lets put it down to a very mild case of panic.

Ill take your advice on board,as im sure it'll set me on the way to cracksvile.

Once again, my thanks
