friends of ed...
check the book section here for foundation actionscript
hmmm i got 'the definative guide' and it is quite advanced. i think u need to know a lil about actionscript b4 reading it.
like tg says u would be best to have a look at a book called 'foundation actionscript'. u should be able to find it at amazon etc. that starts from the beginning and explains everything in detail.
you can find some details about the book at friends of ed (http://www.friendsofed.com/)

before spending a load of money on books you should try doing lots of tutorials. The best way to learn any scripting or programming language is practice. Try picking a feww tutorials. Look at the end results and try to build them without using the tutorials. If you fail do the tutorial. But it is a lot better for learning if you try doing them yourself before reading how.
Most books hand it to you on a plate, which is a fast way of getting things done, but does not really help too much in the long run.
As soon as you get good at any programming you will find it ewasy to learn other languages - so it is worth putting the time in once!

"LOGIC"....you said it, pal! It's all about seeing something you want done and finding the logical solution to that goal. Good advice from mad_A...Tuorials help. Once you attemp something, even if it's simple, and then fail, you go through the tut adn whammo, it all makes sense. Then you'll remember that the next time you need to accomplish something similar...Programming takes a lo t of patience....Hell, I'm no programming expert and have never really been formally "trained", but once you get the "process" down, it's true, the others just come....
Happy scripting....
