Hi all... heres one for you...

Will defo need coding etc, but let me know your ideas:

I've got a database of shops with address's and postcodes. I want to have a system where the user would enter their post-code, and the map would show the nearest shops.

I know different websites do this, but I want it to go off my database.

It might not need flash, but any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers, Andy

I guess it depends on how detailed and accurate you need it to be. If you just want to return all shops in the given zip code, that should be very simple, just query the db for records with that zip code. On the other end of the spectrum, if you need something that shows specific shops near the actual address, and show mileage and such, you would want to use some existing system that works with detailed map data ... I think microsoft has somethiing called MapPoint, or I imagine google maps or mapquest offer services you can use. For something in the middle, you might be able to store information about all the zipcodes surrounding the shops and how they relate to each other (which areas border each other, that sort of thing) and use that to determine which shops to display.

I have a flash-movie ( under construction ), which display all zip-codes of USA on map. Seehttp://www.mainmaps.com/usa_zip/ ( enter zip-code or city-name, than press "Select" and look at map...).
I can code your project for three days.
Else for three days I can do the interface and design to project:

Using technology: Macromedia Flash+Php+MySQL.
