Hello all! I have been trying to set up a site for my girlfriend who is an opera singer. I would like to showcase audio cuts from a CD she had mad at a recording studio. It seems like I can get great quality going into Flash, but when I publish (no matter what the audio compression settings are at), it sounds as if she were singing from inside a soup can. Is there anyway to get high quality audio out of Flash? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

open the publish settings (in the file menu)
click on the flash tab
change the mp3 settings to a higher kbs
cheers

the default setting of 16kbs , mono would usually be enough for mp3 on the web and should sound fine...
how did you compress your original source audio?

what you an also do is to have .rm (realmedia) instead of a .mp3.. this .rm will open up a realplayer and stream it.. what you will also need to do is to open note pad and type in
http://yourwebsiteaddress.com/path/myaudio.rm ("DO NOT GO TO THIS ADDRESS")
you will want to save this as a text document, "BUT" your file name should be
myaudio.ram
make sure you do save these two files in the same location..

OK, I think I have it. I think there was some confusion on my part about bit rate. What I am trying to do is sync some audio with an image sequence which will play on a monitor when someone drages a graphic of a VHS tape onto the loading slot of a VCR. Looks like you are playing the tape. I appreciate everyones help. This is a great resource for people like myself who are just getting our feet wet.
Thanks,
Kurt

If you're using a .wav file, flash really compresses it and makes it sound crappy, but I've found it doesn't distort MP3 files. I usually covert all my audio to MP3 format in SoundForge.

Thanks, I think my real problem was with the bit rate setting in my mp3. I have tried a few different recipes and found one that tastes pretty good!

Tasty!
I will normally make/mix the loop, or whatever, in aiff format (makes a fully uncompressed audio file - nice 'n large) through something like Sound Edit.
Then I'll typically import into fla, adjust it's compression settings (up to 20 bps, stereo - if that sound wants to be of good qual), within the libary... making sure, the publishing settings don't override... boogey chillen.
www.autoco.com.au, for instance.

Thanks for the advice. Importing as an .aiff is exactly the way I have been doing it.
