Well, there's zinc and northcode and juggler... and probably a zillion others...

Would anyone care to give their opinions on any swf2exe they've tried? I am going to need* a projector creator that allows disk access and (I hope) a joystick. I know Zinc can do it, for 300 USD... I hate to shell out that kind of cash for something I don't really need.

Anything that requires additional funds to distribute anything I make is right out. I don't "make a living" with Flash, but I also don't pirate, even giving out stuff to friends.

Along the same lines... with Flash8 coming out, should I wait, to assure compatibility?

If you feel your answer would be considered "commercial" in nature, feel free to pm me, but I'd prefer answers in the open, in case others have similar questions.

Thanks for reading this, and even more thanks for any opinions you share.

*"need" used in the sense of "want to get it enough that I'm going to, regardless."

If you have eny experience in some programming language, you can try FlashPlayerControl ( http://www.flashplayercontrol.com/ ). Delphi edition allows to create windowless applications. You can pack all your movies, JPGs, FLVs, etc. and even flash.ocx into a single exe and it will work everywhere. But if it doesn't fit to you, take a look at mProjector (you can find URL of this product in Google). I dont use it, but it looks like a very good flash projector tool :)
Hope it helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the word on link mProjector, OF. I used to use Delphi back in the 1990's, but I didn't really like the Pascal environment. In addition, I really don't want to tackle the syntax of yet another programming interface.

Amervb,

Well, that depends on what else it will do, doesn't it? Just projectors with disk access and joystick control? I figure $30 to $50 should be enough.

However, the packages I've looked at are much more than that... and eventually, I might need some more connectibility or other options they already offer. I don't think I'd want to pay $50 for every two options I ask for. I didn't state that their prices were too much. I said that it was more than I wanted to spend for my present requirements.

Some of us KNOW how much work goes into a program... which is why we pay for them, write them, and/or have a secret desire to castrate software pirates.

Thanks for the responses. I should be making my decision sometime after I return to the US.

I have come across an article that compare all swf2exe software somewhere. Maybe you should search on Google. Anyway, my personal experience is that screenweaver is probably the best. I believe it is the first to allow injection of new function directly into Flash coding environment instead of using fscommand.

No idea why it is discontinued :( Maybe someone should revived it with permission from the original author. FYI, I am still using it on Flash MX 2004 and most of the function still work!
