View Full Version : Issue Resolved?

Is there any way to mark a post "resolved"?
That way you would know that the person who started the thread is no longer in need of assistance. It might cut down on traffic a little or help concentrate everyone's efforts where needed.
And since I'm wishing for stuff, how about a way to rate the movies and tutorials? Seems like you can rate just about everything else (I especially like the book ratings). It could help the newer members get to the best content quicker.
Just some ideas,

The only problem with this idea is this situation:
1. You ask a question. Someone answers at length, and it's marked reolved (by the original poster).
2. I come along a month later with a question along the very same lines, and extenda that thread with an additional post, and it never gets answerred because the thread is resolved.
We can't allow everyone to edit the threads for security reasons of course, so I'm a bit relucatant. I had thought of the idea before, but not of a good way to impliment it.

Would it be possible to have a checbox or icon associated with the thread that could be edited by everyone without allowing access to the rest of the thread's contents? If so, maybe it could store a variable of who marked it closed. That way if somebody finds it "fun" to mark open threads closed you could deal with that person as you see fit.
Could you make it so anyone can open a resolved thread but only the person that started or opened it can close it again?
Just throwing some ideas out there. Thanks for even considering it.

Erg. The last idea is a good one but it would mean re-constructing our own functions in PHP for the forums, then reimplimenting them every time we upgrade. Lots of work... Don't think I'm lazy, but there's lots of work already to be done :)

I don't think I'd ever refer to you as "lazy". I don't have much of an idea of what's involved in maintaining a site like this. I was hoping there was an easier way. Thanks for even considering it.
And just in case my other requests were forgotten, how about being able to rate the movies and tutorials? Would this be any easier, or should I "forget about it"?
Thanks for the high-quality site you already have.

Rating the movies is coming. I built it in as a possibility when I constructed the movies section, I've just got to make the PHP for it. Hopefully in the next 4 weeks (before Uni resumes). Rating tutorials would be more difficult, but I'll brainstorm.

Thanks for all your efforts Jesse and Strok. It is greatly appreciated - and I think if you DID happen to feel like being lazy for a while, I'm sure you'd be forgiven!
