Is there some way to measure the progress of a service on the server? I have a service that runs a heavy search query, and it takes about 3 seconds to return a value.

Right now, I have a 'semaphore' function locking and unlocking (and showing a generic 'loading' screen) the UI based on the status of the service.

Is there any way to let the flash know how much longer the process will take?

If not, how have some of you experts implemented this?

Grazie

I was pretty intrigued by this question and took some time and looked into it. I don't think its possible. If you are using a result set you may want to look into splitting it up into multiple pages and paging through it. Each page will be a seperate request/response to the server so it would be somewhat possible to present a progress bar.

I do know from doing some AMF reverse engineering that the body of each amf message has its length sent first. So the client is aware of how much data it is going to receive, but I don't think you can get at it. Its hidden in NetConnection class which is not an AS class.
