so, i found a way... see what i did: i put labels. then, on my main movie i made the same background without the buttons. This is the backround for all the 'imported swf's'. I did copy the keyframes out of the fla's and pasted them there where i needed. On the real complex fla's i copied all the layers into a movieclip, then imported it on the according keyframe on the mainmovie. (the buttons on this movies don't function, but u can cut them and paste them in a different layer in u'r main movie.)
the rest is just on every button
on (release) {
gotoAndStop ("labelname");
}
and to go back the same, namely u'r first label where of course u have the buttons.
One problem though: now i have a swf of 1 megabite! (there is one movie of 343 k) Since they are mostly mc i used therte is no way to optimise them. How long would it take for a 56k user to download this? is it even worth the try?
thanks allready for the time invested
It's REALLY HARD to have swfs of that size. You must be making everything as complex and large in size as possible! The largest swf I ever made for the web was 350kb and that was with several music tracks and full screen size bmp backgrounds....
The whole point of symbols and instances is to save memory. Are you using vector drawings at all?
You should give a URL so we can see what the heck you are doing, because you post make little to no sense whatsoever.
And no, 56k users will never wait for a meg to download just to see a flash site.

well, first of all i am sorry if this made no sense at all. Part of it (with emphasis) has to do with the fact that i tried to reply on a thread that was already started which is about level_o/05 and so. But thanks for u'r quick reply.
Anyway, this is what happens: my original main movie is about 474k. and yes it uses a full screen bmp. Then there is this really large panoramic scene which is about 320k. Above this i have an external soundswf of 120k (i definitivly have to check that one cozz i don't understand how it got so big since it's a loop) the panoramic scene might not be able to reduce. The main movie, if indeed i learn to work with instances an so, and redo the mc's in it, might get under the 200k.
Funny (?) enough, while you were answering this i tried to upload this monster: to no vail. O yes the index containing the html to launch the swf is there already, so no url until i get everything fixed. Damned: it looks so nice on my computer.
well, who needs the net anyway...
(i know i do)
hey, don't get discouraged answering all this amateuristic things: u guys are what's left of THE GOOD
Well, if you can't upload it, I guess it's time to start burning CD's and giving them to friends and possible clients, right?
There's nothing like a nice autorun exe file at full screen to torture people with!

Yeah, that way they will get a preview from the future... imagine the broadbroadband we will have then... i see, i am a premature.
Actually, are you insane?to burn a cd for 1 megabyte? I really got cold shivers when i read that. But if i do, can i send one for review?:D
Ok, thanks a lot for your comments anyway. This has taught me two lessons:
1. HOW (and not TO) structure my way of working with Flash
2. THERE is a galactic difference between 100k and 200k (this nonchalance did it)
p.s: i feel morally forced to let you know when it's done. ****, now i really have to make something really complex and big (for about 400k)
