In this information-era, keeping track of our personal and professional data is essential... visualize clearly what we want to do is also very important, so, any method that could help us make better use of our information is welcome. Recently I started to study Mind Mapping and, while the concept of use is simple, the possibilities are endless. But it is important to know the difference between the different diagramming methodologies. I used to confuse UML and Mind Mapping while they are totally different things... actually they can complement each other in usefullness. I tend to see MindMaps as higher-levels diagrams of an ideia and or series of ideas put in a organized and structured way. They can help in brainstorming, todo list, and to have a better visualization of the ideia/project. UML on the other hand, is a language... is more targeted to engineering specifically software engineering. Well, I´m posting here to share my concepts and knowledge with you, I´d like to have a more clear picture and distinction of these methodologies... maybe you can help by sharing what you know about the subject. Any resources sites and books sugestions are welcome!

well I attempted a longwinded reply to this thread, but was stimied by my own eloquence (since when does timeout occur after 25 mins?? :))
anyway, it probably saved you a lot of redundant, self-indulgent reading, so I'll cut to the chase.
I know nothing (concretely) to which you refer. I am interested in this conversation and can only offer one idea on creating an easier way to humanly (ie visualy) organise and consume data. (if that's what you're after)
COLOUR.
This intrinsic element to any (sighted) humans existence is disproportionately under-represented in any information entry/retrieval system. While black and white iconography dominates international sporting events, and colour-coding guides us for mass transit systems, the most complex, data heavy, system in the world barely acknowledges the most powerful sorting system available to the pre-frotal cortex. With a growing, international, multi-lingual, datascape this instinctual (as opposed to societal) ranking system (in my mind based on an RGB colour mixing system) is the next step.
I don't have a fully formed idea of how this would take shape, but I am interested in persuing it further.

Thanks for the reply Third Eye and sorry for the big delay in responding...
Your theory is quite interesting and I can see much sense on it though I find your vocabulary a little complicated.
Based on my own experience, I found a great way to focus my attention and multiply my perfomance on study - I use Mind Maps to organize all of the content and it really helps clarifying the thing out.
I´m currently using MindManager. I´m also a UML addict, I tend always to model all my system in this language for the sake of better understanding and documentation.
Well.... I´ve been always interested in the proccess of learning how to learn, so, if anyone wants to share resources and knowledge about this, please, feel free to do so!
Cheers,
Marcelo.
