This site needs your support ! Join the beta test team today !

As a beta tester your task is to find and report those little (and bigger) flaws that slipped by the other team(s). These can be flaws in purpose, design and flow ! Testers of all skilllevels can sign up here ! If u want to join this team, leave a post, preferably with your e-mail. We need as much diversity as possible, so plz add some info about your OS, cpu, RAM, connection and browser.

If possible, also some people who don't know flash, but do like to chat. Even some who think computers are just fancy typewriters (worst case scenario testing :) ) If u know any, let them try the chat at different stages of the dev. once we've reached the beta fase.

btw, I need the e-mailadresses from Strok and nic. For group messages that can't be spread thgough the forum (don't know if it'll happen, but better safe than sorry)

Hey RICO, I have some testing material that might help you. When all of this is done i plan on harraunging our IA here at work to run through it once or twice also.

I'll see if i can dig something up for you. It's just a checklist type thingy.

Ricod
02-05-2002, 09:07 AM
That would be great Vile ! also, what's IA ? Not everybody speaks corporate slang ... is it internet access ?

C'mon people ! We need more testers ! Don't be shy ! Follow the set example and join our test team ! (I bet you would if we were beta-testing the latest Final Fantasy or so !)

Isn't it weird that Square makes such memorable characters and then completely abandon them (although most return in different incarnation). Except for Red ... haven't seen another like him yet (Although a character from FF X might ... I've got no PS2, so can't play it yet ... :( )

pinkaboo
02-05-2002, 09:38 AM
Did you ever see Red with his cubs at the very end? Awww, it was lovely, he was so proud. Hell of a battle to get to see the end end sequence.
I think I've seen Red crop up in a different game somewhere, not sure what that was though, unless I dreamt it! and I think Aeris and Cloud feature in a Japanese tekken type fighting game too, unless I dreamt that too! hmm, no I'm sure that was real, I saw it playing in an import game shop in Manchester China Town.

Welcome Billy T !

Pinkaboo - Wasn't that Ehrgeiz or something ? (crappy game btw) , Cloud and Sephiroth right ? hmm ... Red in a different game ... maybe one o'those Chocobo games ?

heheh ! I remember that ending ! Made me feel rewarded that I sat through the credits ! (my neighbor didn't and had to battle Sephiroth all over again just for that !)

What's so great about Red is that normally all characters are either humanoid or humanoid-like (like moogles). While Red remains ... what is he anyway ? A mountain Lion ?

vilehelm
02-06-2002, 04:31 AM
FF - I always rename my characters so I get confused. I really thought despite some of the criticism that FF9 was by far the best. Many may not agree.

Anyway, IA stands for Information Architect. Gotta write a note to pull that testing stuff together. We're trying to rework ours a little bit so I can pull a little double duty on that.

Uh I can test some platforms although I'm an at best a spotty tester.

Macs

IMAC G3 400mhz 8.6(it's orange with devil horns stuck on top)
G3 Powerbook ???mhz 8.6(got it used)
G4 ???mhz 9.1(older model, work machine)

PCs

HP Pavilion Celeron 700something WindowsYuckME

Those pointers would definetely be much appreciated ! When I beta test sumthing I just pretend to not know what I'm supposed to do, but always end up doing stuff based on what I know ...

I'd sure like to know how people in the biz do it.

If u like FF9, and haven't played FF6 yet, u should ! (a lot of characters may look familiar, same setup with the roles etc.)

Hi,
I've got a bunch of Mac G3 and G4s and a couple decent PCs to offer as far as testing goes.

Are we going to hook all these machines up together to create some kind of monster?

Hey wasn't or Isn't there some thing where they're using a whole bunch of people's home computers to listen for life in space or something?

Scared? How? Why? Have you created a user? If so, as soon as you get on, (you are using the gMUD, right?) type "@who" and you can see who's there. (I'm assuming you already know that but thought I'd throw it in anyhoo..) You can usually count on 20, Vile or myself being there most days...Then "shout" and we'll pull you up so you don't get lost.

Admittingly, I always get lost... Come on over! Promise, very very soon the first test batch will be up and ready..just a few things...

Rupert
02-22-2002, 01:08 AM
I'm assuming you already know that but thought I'd throw it in anyhoo..

No - actually I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing. I created a user and just stood there wondering what to do next. So any kind of advice as to how to get it all happening would be welcome!

Can I suggest that one of you writes out some basic notes on how to get started so the greener ones such as my good self can get happening?

Cheers,

Right...hit the connect button on the gMUD...select Wayland (you have no other choice!...)

this gets you on...if you don't have a user...type the following...

create userName password email@ddress

and ENTER...

That should do it...

If you are already created...then

connect userName password

See you soon...

Ricod
02-27-2002, 04:58 PM
Hey Guys, sorry to be so late about this. I think we're very close to testing now so i wanted you to look over this and add any last comments or thoughts.

Testing Steps

First off we need to figure out who and who has not been on the engine already via MUSH or gMUD and established an identity therein.

Create User names and passwords for those who have not. I would prefer we do this for them so that we can get some "clean samples" as the say in the emergency room.

Pass out those user names and passwords and give them the client address as well as the test sheet (see below).

I would prefer to give as little instruction as possible. Ask them to do a dry run first. If they need to, direct them to the read-me file after they have run through it once blind. (20 will post both the .swf and the read me, please 20 ;) )

After that Consolidate all comments into one file if possible and distribute to the 20, Red, Jesse and Myself. Then we'll start a thread for input AFTERWARDS. I don't want people to start commenting on each others comments and start a feeding frenzy. I've seen a lot of user groups go bad like that. We want to get there solitary reaction first. We can brainstorm after.

If they can...ask them to get a friend who knows nothing about this project and have them watch that person go through the engine (I suppose they should just use the same name). Have them write down any comments (by the way this is how must usability testing is done. Just you watching someone navigate a site and making notes...

Ok
