View Full Version : mouse-reactive array of clips

Hello all, I'm trying to code an arrangement of clips that expand under the mouse but also, whose neighbours constrict - the "nervous matrix" effect seen in quite a few places, and to great effect on pixelwit's site (http://www.pixelwit.com) in the "thumbbrowser". Awesome effects, great site! (crawl, crawl, hopes he's reading.....!)

My problems seem to be around keeping everything in ratios corresponding to each other - whereas the overall matrix should stay the same size, mine keeps growing/shrinking. Does anyone, even if they're not pixelwit, know where to get an open source version of this?

TIA,

jim

Sure is!! The swirlpool and the comet rocked!

I couldn't see the "thumbbrowser" though - was it in the new flash or old flash?

Take a look at this file and you'll see a one dimensional application of the grid effect: http://www.pixelwit.com/temp/Stretchy_08.html

You can get the source here: http://www.pixelwit.com/temp/Stretchy_08.zip

I answered a thread similar to this before, try searching for "joshua project" or "project joshua" to find some other source code.

Thanks for the compliments guys. The thumbBrowser is in the New Flash section and the icon for it looks like a grid of ovals. Please don't look in the Old Flash section, it's so dated/crappy looking.

And just because you had something nice to say, I'll post this for your potential enjoyment: http://www.pixelwit.com/temp/SpiroSin_09.html

Hope the files help,

hehe crazy man!

be very cool if you could save your image for others to view...I was at a conference a while back where yugop and tomato interactive and a bunch of other people were all getting into making webpages where the user could leave their mark....think they were using macromedia multi user server or something but I really dont know anything about it...

Thanks for the code pixel - extrapolating that to make it work on a 2d array will make sure that I understand it, so you've done me two favours!

BillyT,
That sounds like saving a file to a database... too scary.

JimBurton,
Give a man a fish... and you feed him for a day, give him a half rotten fish that wasn't what he asked for and he thanks you. Peculiar world. :)

Glad to have helped,
