That's actually a good idea to get your website redone and have a lot of ideas to choose from for actually little monetary spending. But I'd rather cash for work I do :)

In reality is a square deal. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place all get something, but only first place design is used. The big sticking point for me would be giving up all rights to it. I would make another suggestion, when you say design, it implies just the graphical element of the site...change that to develop...

Yeah, it is a square deal, I agree. But to design an E-commerce site is a lot of work. They are basically paying $1150 to get it completely done and have MANY to choose from. It the end, it is cheaper for them to have the "contest" than to actually pay for the work.

I'm not going to disagree...the sticking point is giving up all rights.

The contest is for Macromedia User Groups members and to promote the Flash community. This user group is non profit (no $$). The contest is being held to create a better User Group website.

It is basically open to anyone. Someone may spend a few hours on an entry and win. The prizes have to go. :)

In regards to the Rights...
The developer will still retain full Rights to their code.
The entry chosen as winner will need to grant rights for use of that entry for use of the HOUSTON MACROMEDIA FLASH USER GROUP.

On your site it says, winner gives up all rights to project.

I don't think it reads that.

It reads..

"Rights:
Winning entry, You as developer handover the rights of your entry for use of the HOUSTON MACROMEDIA FLASH USER GROUP. "

I does not say "winner gives up all rights to project."

"hand over"......."give up" same thing...

What do you suggest this be changed to?

Well clearify, does the designer retain exclusive rights, while giving you permission to use it, or whats the deal with that..

Ok, to clarify...

The designer/developer retains full rights to what they develop.
The designer/developer will give permission to use that entry on the HOUSTON MACROMEDIA FLASH USER GROUP website.

Now see, thats a lot different than what is written on the site. If you chnage the wording you might find yourself with a lot more entries.
