View Full Version : So simple..yet? Huh?!
Ok I feel really stupid asking but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I've been working on my first flash site and I managed to integrate a preloader and stuff..but when I came around to publishing it, I realised the settings were set at Flash player version 6. I changed it to 7 and now my preloader doesnt work anymore.
My question is..what is the difference between the different flash player versions? Why does some effect work with one and not with others? What are the advantages/disadvantages in publishing my work in a certain version? I mean..you'd think with a higher flash player version you'd be able to view everything.
Sorry for my noobish question, I'm preatty much self taught and I didnt really bother to actually start with all the basics..lol. Thanks in advance for all the replies!

I actually don't know it doesn't work in F7. I think it has to do with the wierd mathmactical line. something like percent = (_loaded / _total) / 100 * .25.
Lol I dont really want to know specifically why the preloader doesnt work, but more like how my work is affected when publishing using different flash players..Lol.

once again, I don't exactly know. I guess MM corrected an issue they had with the mathmatics in F7.
Different players are just different. You wouldn't expect IE 1.0.0 to render the same way as 6.0.29, right?

The Flash player 6 browser plugins got pretty good penetration... The Flash player 7 hasn't yet reached it's expected penetration, and needless to say, it will be quite some time before the Flash player 8 even gets close to the Player 6's penetration.
Based on that, using whatever version of the Flash application, you should target to publish your movies compatible with the lowest player version possible, to reach a larger part of users, who may not want to update their current player to the newest version. I for one, will not upgrade to the Flash player 8, for quite some time to come...

I for one, will not upgrade to the Flash player 8, for quite some time to come...Weren't you giving CyanBlue a hard time about now ugrading to FP 8, yet? I read that he did. :D I think he felt the peer pressure. But I don't plan to update, either, to quite sometime. I'm fine with FP7.
