macromedia has released the beta of the flash 6 player for public download:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/beta/flashplayer6/

haven't installed it yet, being kinda chicken i guess, if i get a test box up at home i will give it a whirl.

what would be the point of installing it before flash 6 comes out?

I didn't get that either, it's just a player isn't it? I must be missing something?

Maybe it gets rid of that nasty virus problem?

Just a guess,

I don't know about the virus issue but it looks like they (MM) are just doing a wide audience check to see if the new player is compatible with all existing Flash 5 content that people are using.

So no sign of anything more than a beta release player at this stage - anyone feel like being on the Guinea Pig team?

The official line at MM is that: "At this time Macromedia has not announced a release date for the next version of Macromedia Flash."

I'm still trying to get my head around all the little quirky bits of Flash 5 so they can take their time with F6 as far I'm concerned!!

But Rupert_Freeman ! What if they resolve the quirks in flash 6 ? Then all your sweat, blood and tears have been in vain !! (not to mention all the new weird stuff thats bound to pop up in the new release :) ) Anyway, last beta I saw still needed a lot of work ! (they should for starters fix the link to their F1 helpfile :) )

hi there!!!
Macromedia say that the release of the flash 6 player is to check if all the code previously made in Flash 4 and 5 will work... mmmm, i wonder if all the prototypes and stuff will work, not to mention the mix of flash 4 and 5 AS some people keep doing...in my case, as precaution i don't use any more the flash 4 sintax, but again, will all work?...lets hope so!!!

...and...i read in some page that flash 6 player supports the load of jpg's via:
loadMovie("myjpg.jpg");...or something like that...
anyway, i will wait till the final release...

Damn, loading graphics directly into a SWF? That feature alone almost makes it worthwhile! Gotta start saving my pennies now. I'm SO BROKE!!!

Personally I reckon people like us shold get Flash 6 for free from MM since we do so much to promote their product, but I guess that's not likely to happen.

ok i can't wait to see if my stuff in flash will work.., so i installed the plug-in, so far everything is working well:D ...wait a minute, not every thing...that pages with check flash version plug-in routines don't work, i guess all of them will have to rewrite some codes there:p

And im with Jesse, we all deserve a free flash 6 licence!!!
