View Full Version : new idea: Add a FAQ's
Flash Gordon

Hey guys,
I see the same questions all the time: "How do I write to a txt file?" "My preloader?" "etc...."
How about putting up an FAQ in each section? The server-side would answer how to write to txt file and include the fla's and PHP/ASP coding. Same idea for general help, and AS questions.
We could also make an FAQ explaining why oldnewbie got banned from flash kit :p
What do you guys think? While Jesse is making the changes, it might be a good time now.
See ya.
FG
I think reason they havent is because they try to get one point across to all the users, search before you ask. In a way, its a very dynamic FAQ....and why the hell did he get banned from flashkit?

Yeah... A sticky on each forum should do the job...
Only if we can get some person to work on it... ;)
But how many people actually look at the sticky's? Not too many if you read some of the posts

Once I've thought of doing this job (the sticky one) and started it already
but the main problem is that:
1) No one (or most of the ppl) looks at the Stickies
2) It always need to be updated to be alive or to un-stick it after a period of time

I didn't think it would be that much work to keep them up. Just to answer the typical questions either by either linking to a thread or building a tutorial straight into the sticky (FAQ) thread.
But if still people don't look at it, someone could always just point them to the sticky instead of having to retype or repost the same file constantly.
Either way, it was just an idea I thought mught help out some.
Thanks for the input.
See ya.

Well... I agree that not many people look at the sticky... That's why I did not update my list any further, but I do know that there are 'some' people who reads it... Not a bad one to do... It'll help somebody... :)
I still use CyanBlue's most useful thread. Here's another thing to consider. There is a reason people tend to avoid the tutorials section....because it is alittle disorganized. Maybe a future project would be to re-organize the tutorials into the same fashion the forums are organized. By category...just a random thought.

One of the reasons I was hoping for the stick is because the tutorials are SO OLD. I started off on Flash 7, for me to read the soure for Flash 4&5 for the "custom scroll bars", for example, is nearly impossible. I was hoping the FAQ would be "updated" to take care of some of that.
But perhaps, re-organizing or just updating the tutorials would be great.
The tutorials do need to be updated, but it seems like only Jesse and Strok wrote tutorials. If there was more people active in writing quality tutorials, I'm sure they would stay current.

What tutorials do u think are needed to be added Cota?/
Apprently one that deals with writing data to an external text file...:p

One more vote for the organized tutorials by category... That'd help alot...
Of course, the old tutorials need to be updated or keep them as is and rewritten with the new versions since some people needs some old method for whatever reason it is... ;)

Okay, perhaps instead of asking for an FAQ section, this thread could ask for some volenteers to update or rewrite some of the tutorials.
I volenteer Cota :D
Volenteer me...WooHoo.....oh wait....I dont have to go to war do I?

Wonder what will be the fate of this thread...

oh yeah, almost forgot....
looks like we have all successfully hijacked another thread.
:p :D
Cota, what do you think about teaming up on some server side tutorials. It would have the same AS coding but then give the PHP and ASP versions?
I'm cool with that. I wouldnt mind writting a tutorial or two...

Yes, we must have a 'flashoff' with the mods from FK ;)
Flash....what tutorials are we going to do????

I personally think that it's best to straighten up the current ones first... I mean regrouping them first and then update the tutorials to deliver the latest technology... Just my 2 cents... ;)
I dont have access to do those things. How can we get the ball rolling on that?
CyanBlue
11-14-2005, 11:50 PM
I don't either... That's why we need to have Jesse and Strok involved... ;)
Well, in the mean time we can work on some new tuts....
CyanBlue
11-14-2005, 11:56 PM
Yeah... That's true... What's the most frequently asked question???
Why the heck my text is not visible??? :D
Like flash brougt up....saving data to text files and a few other frequently asked processes..
CyanBlue
11-15-2005, 12:00 AM
Yeah... That's one of the favorite for certain... :)
I'm guessing he's thinking we're going to write every tut with a server-side script in both PHP and ASP.
Any other tutorial suggestions?

Flash....what tutorials are we going to do????
I think the writing to external file would be a good start. Once you know how to do that, everything else with flash and server-side is a breeze.
I'm guessing he's thinking we're going to write every tut with a server-side script in both PHP and ASP.. Well, I don't know about EVERY but I think it would be very cool to use the same actionscript and give the PHP / ASP/ (or Perl) server-side for the same tut. I'm game on helping, and so is Cota.
Also, there probably wont be a lot of server-side tutorial.
Perhaps the mail() tutorial could be updated.
Ok, so how should be start?

Cyanblue or any other one, correct me if I am wrong:
I think this is the thread number 1000 that we discuss Tuts arrangement
CyanBlue
11-15-2005, 04:24 AM
Yeah... Something we have discussed many many times yet we did not deliver at all... That's kinda sad as a matter of fact... :(
We're working on a few tutorials at the moment. So, see if you can get Jesse or Strok to re-organize those tutorials.
CyanBlue
11-15-2005, 04:46 AM
Okie dokie... You know where to find me if you need me... ;)
I'll have Jesse ans Strok go over this thread in the mean time...
WooHoo...we might actually be organized..
So far we have an updated Send Mail Contact tutorial written for MX04 with ASP/PHP/PERL options. We're also finishing the Write to Text file tutorial with PHP/ASP options.
Does anyone have any other ideas for tutorials?

Cool, there was once a lot of questions on dynamic content
and preloaders, but that might be a bit too easy.
