Importing Gifs Problem

I have found a few topics about this but they do not help me so I am asking now how to fix this. When I import GIF, it isn't transparent. It sets the part of the GIF that is supposed to be transparent to a color much like the main background. This is becoming an issue and I need help getting around this.

I just tried it in Flash 8 and I can't reproduce this problem. I have tried both static and animated GIFs, using Import to Stage, and the transparency shows up fine. This may be a dumb question, but are you sure your GIFs have transparency? Are they standard 256-colors-or-less GIFs?
