View Full Version : What other talents do you have?
Ok, so everyone here is a flash junkie in way or another, but what else can you do...aside from computer stuff...for example, do you play an instrument, are you a car guy/girl..... I'll get it started...
Aside from computers, I play guitar, bassm, drums, piano, and alittle violin. Aside from that, I'm a car guy...I have my '05 Mustang which I work on. After that I'm picking up either a '68 Camero, or '71 Charger.
So, what about the rest of you?

Aside from computers (which is a hobby), I play saxophone (little flute, clarient, piano).
Also, I'm a meat head: I like to go to the gym.
Sports: Tennis and Golf. (not a big fan of football or basketball)
I collect and grow Banzai trees.
I'm a motorcycle guy: '89 Kaw Ninja EX250 dual cam. I do some of the work myself.
Finally, I'm a lover....

did no-one notice that flash gordon grows bonzai trees?? wow!
I dont really do flash much more, as I became redundant 2 years ago.
In my spare time, I play piano and Ive started playing guitar even though ive had one for 2 years, but ive just started learning some songs.
my only other talent is a girly thing....I make stuff. I make cards, jewellery, clothes, bags...I draw, paint and try to do anything artistic, I also write songs and poetry
i would be a car nut if i could find a reasonable priced dodge a100 pickup (60s), with little rust and matching numbers. it doesn't even need to run.

Interesting hobby...:p
@tg - just look around online....you wont believe cars you can find...I found a 1938 Ford Coupe for $1000, but the wife said she would leave me if I got it.
@bluegel.... keep on truckin with that artistic stuff... altho, i would call artistic stuff just 'a girl thing'
...I found a 1938 Ford Coupe for $1000, but the wife said she would leave me if I got it.
and your not sleeping in it on the streets?
jeez what some folks will give up for a little tang.
found a 63 ford e100 pickup a while back in florida for $300, but no engine, and too much rust.... almost got it, but shipping out to oregon was way too high.
It was a fair trade off besides, she'll change her mind when I eventually get her the car of her dreams....1967 Shelby Mustang (Eleanor)
well, i may be getting my dads old dodge diesel pickup one of these days.... if so, i will begin chemistry as my hobby, and make my own biodiesel.
If it werent for a backflow issue, a simple carbon filter in the muffler would eliminate exhaust polution...and a few midgets under the hood would eliminate the need for gas..

I play basketball a lot. Fun, good excercise, and I like to watch it on TV too.
I am into cars as well although I probably won't be able to really get into it until I am older and have enough money to just throw around on cars.
Whenever I have free time I like to paint with acrylics or use pastels but time has been tight lately. Mostly acrylics on gessod masonite.
Can't play any instruments, used to play the recorder in 3rd grade if that counts.

i love pastels.... i have covered a couple of my kitchen cabnet doors with oil pastel drawings... don't know if i will ever be able to sell the house with out using a bit of sand paper on the doors but... its good for me and mine.

Wow really, what type of scene or motif did you paint on the doors? What did you seal it with when you finished?
one door (a taller one) is a saguaro (sp) cactus, two others are a pair of cowboy boots and a rooster. if i can dig up some decent pics, i will post them.
i sealed them with polyuerathane... not sure if i spelled that correctly.
I'm completely jealous....I cant draw or paint for my life...give me photoshop and you cant stop me, but by hand....no drawing/painting talents what so ever. Did it come natural to you guys or was it taught...I'm assuming natural..

I used to draw since I was little, mostly pencil and marker. I used to copy comic book characters when I was little as practice. In high school I got into doing car rendering and concept drawings. Then when I went to college I had a bunch of classes in color theory, guache, acrylics, life drawing, pastels, etc so I worked with a lot more mediums than I was used to. I even got into airbrushing for a while which is really cool. I just ran out of time really to do much anymore. I have 4 prepped masonite boards sitting down here right now waiting for me to paint on them. I've been doing so much computer artwork and I've been trying to get into photography as well and there are only so many hours in the day :) I think I'd like to actually do photography on the side one day and perhaps have a gallery opening at least one time in my life. I think that would be cool.
Honestly, that sounds awesome. I wish I could draw and paint. Like I said, I do photoshop stuff, pretty good stuff, at least I'd like to think...but being able to have a real canvas and stuff like that....photoshop cant compare.

Wow, if you remove all electronics from the equation, what are my talents and skills? Hmmm...
Well, I've studied Fine Art for many years, and I'm quite good with a pencil and paper. Drawing, shading, sketching... my favorite media are pencils and charcoal. Mainly I work with black and white, or at most monochrome. Never have been much for painting with paints and brushes... only really with photoshop.
Aside from that, I make a tasty yellow curry.

Cooking, that is a talent I would like to have as well. I can follow instructions well and make things but I'd like to know the nuances of food so I could just make things up on the fly and know that the combination will be good. I watch that food guy with the glasses on the foodchannel and he is a genius to me. I liked his one on how to make a hot pepper mild or hot based on how you skin it.
drexle
12-02-2005, 04:26 AM
Oh, I wouldn't say that I have any special genius when it comes to cooking. In fact, there are only a few recipies I really even bother with, but when I do decide to try something new I'm not afraid to vary the recipie, or vary the cooking method, which is really the key to a good dish.
I suppose the best way to explain the process of learning the best way to make a dish is to taste the ingredients in as base a form as you can before you add them, then again after you add them and see what happens... or just try something unusual. Like the next time you make pizza, try cooking the ingredients into the sauce instead of treating them like toppings (unless that is what you already do, of course)... you get a richer flavor that way.
BadBadNeil
12-02-2005, 04:36 AM
I'd like to know too what each spice or herb equates to taste wise and what foods they mix and blend with. Right now if I had something to a food like a celantro or rosemary for example I am not really understanding the effect it is having on the food or if certain ones should be mixed with others and others shouldn't. Sort of like a table of elements for food ingredients.
Mmmm pizza. You make your own? I thought it'd be cool to have a brick oven in the house :D

I do. Actually, when I say cook the ingredients into the sauce, i don't mean to cook the cheese into it... just the other toppings like olives, peppers, sausages, et cetera.
Spices... I once found a website with a comprehensive list of spices and their uses, but I no longer have the link. What I can tell you though, is that if you have a kitchen full of spices that you have never used then you might want to just try adding spices and see what happens. Small doses at first and taste as you cook, if possible. I'd start with soups since they're pretty safe to do that with. Perhaps you have some sage or allspice? Also if you go out to restaurants or cafes you might catch an idea or two. It never would have occured to me to put paprika on hummus if I hadn't seen it in a cafe once. Now I do frequently.

:p haha... that's one talent that I share with you.
I like to draw(sketching mostly) whenever I have free time. In fact, that brought me to this whole concept of designing. I have loads of certificates that I got in drawing competitions. Besides drawing, I used to create anything out of small/unused things from my mom's closet. But now, if I not on flash or designing, I am on net or before TV. Other things that interests me are cooking(if my mom isn't there :D) and gardening.

@drexle Yeah I suppose experimenting is the best way to learn. I guess since I know very little about all the spices there must be ones that are no no's. I guess adding something bad won't blow up the kitchen.
Going with the food theme I'd like to make drinks better too. I tried to make a mojito the other day and it came out horrible compared to the one I had in P.R.

8o north? 80 runs east and west...
BadBadNeil
12-05-2005, 02:02 AM
Actually its 84W to 80W to 81S that I took before. That was no tolls but also lots more mountainous. Wouldn't be bad if I had a car that didn't have 90HP and 500+ lbs of luggage in the car.
90HP....bring that car by, we'll get that up to about 250HP easily..
BadBadNeil
12-05-2005, 04:57 AM
Haha, oh believe me I could if I wanted to drop some money into it. Its a 1.6l sentra, I know a few people who have 250HP+ in them NA. Of course that is with heavy modifications and similar could be had from a turbo. I thought about it years ago but then I needed the car to be reliable, and if I upgraded the HP I'd also have to add rear discs and upgrade the front, not to mention engine mounts etc. The coilovers and upgraded tires/wheels make it MUCH more fun to drive though, it corners crazy.
I think if I ever buy another car (this one is 10years old) I may just keep this one as a project car. If it had the 2.0l SER engine putting out 150HP I'd be happy, I wish a swap was simple but a lot of parts don't swap.
But that would lead to other problems....if I dont come here or do some other programing then I'll end up outside working on the car....and my wife hates that more than she hates me being in front of the computer...sleep is damn near impossible to get, the kids......enough said...

i am king of the power nap.
i come home from work (for years now) and would sit down on the couch and take a 10-15 minute nap. just out almost instantly.... the kids would come over to me and be climbin all over me, pulling my hair poken and proddin, and it would n't phaze me a bit... after 10-15, i would get up, and be ready for the rest of the day.
now that is something that pisses my wife off.... that i can just go out like that for such a short time, and make it count.

If GM came out with something I liked I'd be happy to buy a product from them. I just went through their entire lineup of 50+ cars and couldn't find a single thing I would even consider in 4th place from other car companies. Not my fault though for not liking them, their fault for putting out bland emotionless vehicles.
The one exception is the Saturn Sky which hasn't come out yet (2006). Car is gorgeous but so impractical (2 seat roadster with a manual top) that I'd never buy it.
what....GM...Pontiac GTO, it has a serious engine...as for the saturn sky...only 170hp....boo
BadBadNeil
12-08-2005, 05:55 AM
There are some good engines in some of their cars, the LS in the corvette for example and the GTO but let's face it people usually don't care just about how good an engine is, they like nice interiors, nice exteriors, good driving dynamics, and prestige as well and GM cars are just years behind in the these areas. I don't know if it is the executives of the company who are too afraid to be bold or if the concepts being created are that poor. I have a feeling it is the former.
The one company where they took a chance was in Cadillac with its very boxy shape but they based the whole image throughout their product line based on a very much love it or hate it design that I think has alienated customers. Shame because the XLR is a nice car. I like the gamble they took though with cadillac to at least attempt to reinvigorate a stagnant brand. They are having a tough time getting people to switch from Audi/MB/BMW/Lexus/Infiniti to their vehicles because they are very similarly priced.
Yeah the Saturn Sky only 170HP, but they left it open for a redline version that is turbocharged, probably around 250HP or so which is good on a roadster. I was more basing it on the looks department, it is a gorgeous car and so often I have heard it looking very "european" which is a good thing if GM wants to compete aesthetically.
I honestly don't understand why they have such trouble making good looking quality vehicles. Someone is approving the crap coming out of R&D.

Yea don't you just hate it when that happens? You're taking a flight to whereever, and I mean, I don't really dislike flying, except for the flight-attendants, the fat female ones. Anyways, you're in the air and then some bloke stands up with this horribly bad-tempered look on his face while shouting "this is a hijack bladiebladiebla I'm in a bad mood". I mean, come on, if you're in a bad mood than you shouldn't go hijacking planes in the first place.
You can't take over flights while acting like some crappy asshole towards everybody in the plane, that's just plain.... rude..
..so, well, I just always try to be nice and polite. Kinda next-round's-on-me thing, always worked for me. Except for that one time when I was in a thread to this straight-edge concert, so I asked if anybody was in for some sausages but they didn't really seem to be all that pleased with that either...

You know times are bad when you cant get hijacke with a smile or talk about your sausage and get a laugh....just sad times..

We gotta work on a cruddist-greeting thing, like the nazi's use to point their right arms straight forward in the air, and like the people from scotland lift up their kilts whenever they meet eachother out in the open (don't tell me you've never seen 'em do it, just don't).
We gotta have some sort of gesture, something fierce and strapping, and above all.. something them nasty unpeeledonion-throwers won't be able to copy or imitate.
...yuh

I was actually thinking much more in the direction of something like urinating against tree's or waste-bins or something... in public of course (needless to say). Don't think that's been done before anywhere as a common greeting..?

That wouldnt work because some people cant urinate on demand....and some just cant stop urinating...it would get messy.

Fritters, excellent...we need those....by the way...whats a fritter?
yker22
12-19-2005, 08:02 PM
frituras, churros, snacks.
ingredients:
wheat, lard, sugar, salt, cinnamon, vegetable oil (corn oil), yeast, water, candy milk or fruit marmalade.
mix all that stuff (except candy milk or marmalaide), leave to repose, fry it, eat, get fat.

i think the wheat and fruit marmalade is just making it a tad bit too healthy a food.

Need to train first, haven't played Street Fighter anymore since Street Fighter Alpha on the Playstation ... There are more Ken-lovers out there though. Whoo whoo whoo! Street Fighter on the Playstation!?! what the fudge.
It's on the sega or nothing people!! i had (have) Street Fighter II special championship edition for the sega awesome stuff :D
Could complete it with any one of the character easy and knew all their special moves off by heart (Zangief's Spinning pile driver is the hardest by far!!).
and yes ken was my favourite. him and ryu were both the all round package. had both height(Dragon punchs) and distance(Fireballs). Ryn had the faster Fireballs and Ken had the better Dragon punch. I perfered Ken because i liked to get up close and personal. could finish someone off in 6 secs with him. all u need was 2 killer combos. Jump in - down C punch- normal C punch- and double hit with a C dragon punch :D
ahh man i am off to set the sega up even though i have an exam tomorrow!! let the good times roll.
