Well, i have to post this ...how about running the ActionScript.org Olympics...
here are my ideas for the games and rules :

The AS.org olympics should consist in making some functional ActionScripts that everybody here uses in their work in categories like(Scripting and Backend , interaction, experimental stuff, AS animation, menus, utilities...etc.)

The goal to win should be:
make the code faster, lighter, smaller, simplest, usable...
and of course, using only the AS as Macromedia explain in their manuals, that means no fancy stuff, (undocumented features ) to keep it compatible with the future releases of Flash.

I guess this is a fun way for all of us to learn and teach the best way to do the good Flash stuff that makes the money go to our bank accounts...or under the mattress :)

hope this dream become true!!!

...Jesse...i like to know your oppinion about this.

Everybody...i am waiting for your comments

Sounds interesting but I'm not entirely sure what you meen. Would we all be trying to optimize the same piece of code or all trying to achieve the same objective (with details specificatiosn) in the best way?
Sounds cool, but I know I'm going to have less and less spare time in coming months.

I guess it cut be both ways, maybe same pice of code for the beginers(anybody can download the codes uploaded to see what's going on, but wins the oldest uploaded good codes)...

and same objective for the advanced ones(here, nobody can download the codes, just the judges)... and for the time, well...i think it can be managed like:

2 weeks or so to upload the codes, so everybody has the time to try.
1 week for the judges to decide.
and finally...the winners of the particular section/objective with a description of why they win, and the prizes!!!!!... a golden swf medal, a silver one and a bronze one :) .

here comes the tricky stuff, the winners can show their medals in their own sites (that gives ActionScripts.org some free publicity and more visitors).

And now...who can be the judges, we can email some flashGurus around to ask them to participate? and are they participating in the games?(i guess not in the same category that they are judging :p)

Let's think in some more details....

hi farafiro, it's simple...

some or all of us just make sugestions about the codes to use for the competitions...

then the participants make their code improvements and upload them...
the judges give the winners...

and all of us can have the better codes made here!!!

don't forget about the swf medals:)

And everybody that replayed this thread...SPREAD THE WORD!!!
this need more support and ideas!!! come on!!!

hey Bleeda!!!, remember, roma wasn't build in one day...and if you keep the track on this, you can learn a lot, and know really how much you can do with Flash, don't you think?.

And any way, you can suggest the codes to improve :D

to all...i guess this need more people to start with....keep spreading the word!!!!!!

It could be fun if everybody plays with the right things in mind; namely to learn and have a good time.

These sorts of things only get bad, I think, if they're taken a bit too seriously. Friendly competition is great, though.

:)

PS. I just have to mention in advance, I wouldn't have a lot to offer in terms of new optimization ideas (I'm just learning). But I'd still play because I'd probably pick up a lot of good techniques from the other players - you guys.
