Today is the day!!!
Bye bye Macromedia... Hello Adobe...
http://www.macromedia.com/macromedia/proom/pr/2005/acquisition_clearances.html
I really hope Adobe doesnt f*ck it up....I love their graphics software, but their ventures to the web world have been extremely lacking......again, I will bring up Adobe Atmosphere...what a piece of crap that was....

Well... I think they bought Macromedia because they knew what they were lacking of... ;)
it may be the end of fireworks.... i'm sure most folks consider photoshop to be much better, but i love fireworks, cause its so easy to learn and use.

I think it probably will be gone, Fireworks was the competitor to ImageReady which comes with PS so I see that staying. Fireworks did have some neat things and I think I liked it better overall than IR. Similarly they dumped Freehand for Illustrator. Beyond those I don't see a whole lot of overlapping. Adobe pretty much owns the publishing/multimedia/video market for the prosumer. I wonder if branding will change.
I personally didnt like fireworks, but it did have a few nice features...As long as Adobe doesnt screw with Flash, then I'm happy..
I'm a bit worried for my case... As the same time it could be good cause eg you could have a better integration between illustrator and flash...
Anyway I hope so :)

so did you start with photoshop?
for someone familiiar with dreamweaver/flash, who has absolutely no clue on how to use image software, fireworks is hands down easier to learn then photoshop....

Anyway I hope so :)
as long as they keep the same development teams, i would image this would happen with in the next two versions of flash.... look at how closely flash/fireworks are integrated.

Yeah, I started with photoshop...tried fireworks and paintshop pro and just didnt like them as much...
I've always meant to look at coldfusion but never found the time, wonder what will happen with that..

I love Fireworks and Freehand. I'll stick with my newest versions as long as I can even if they both go away.

Everything about Adobe customer relations scares the crap out of me. I think we are about to get screwed. Macromedia always seemed to put together some good basic documentation for Flash, it was easy to use the dictionary and find other tutorials on their site. Adobe's site on the other hand is a broken piece of junk that has nothing but selling you delux bs in mind. First off that you have register to get just about any kind of useful information is so offensive. They have had terrible documentation for their javascript support in photoshop, and what they do have for CS2 is all in pdf format, which speaks for itself. Its all a joke over there. They have one mission, to bleed customers.
Then lets talk about the "awesome" intergration they have done between illustrator and photoshop...nada. Yeah, each package now (as of CS anyway) has a few rudimentary things from the other, but even when you shell out the big bucks for the whole CS deal, its not like the key unlocks some integration magic for you so that you dont have to bounce back and forth so much between the two programs. Adobe to me is like the Microsoft of graphics. Their objective is to create dependancy not to innovate. I expect that other than giving Flash a ui face lift they will take the same direction with Flash and Illustrator, providing only the most basic drawing tools in Flash. We would have had a better chance getting better drawing tools in Flash if Macromedia were still running the progam.
I also expect Adobe to clamp down on the OSSFlash stuff going on and just make life hell in general. I'm no authority on Adobe's real plans, but for having been gouged by Adobe since Photoshop 6 (probably the last time there were any really meaningful reason to by a new version of Photoshop) I am nothing but pessimistic about this deal. I can only wish the SEC would look at this deal for monopoly.

to illustrate my point, here is the vision statement of the Adobe "vision" by CEO Chizen:
http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/acquisition_complete/main.html
the first two thrids he rambles on about the "dizzying world of information" and actually use phrases like "bombarded" and "competing for our attention" - watching this thing I feel like I am at some lame powerpoint conference circa 1999. God, I at least would have given him comedic credit if had gone full off the cliff with cliches and named this video, "Adobe and Macromedia, The Uber Synergy".
So what do we get for vision in this four minutes of rambling?...any talk about intergrating tools, cutting redundancy in the product line, freeing up Adobe and Macromedia developers so that they can pursue better 3D support, or more efficient codecs, faster image processing, or other real product innovation?....of course not, the only "vision" we get is they plan to marry PDF and Flash. Wow.
We're all doomed......Looks like Flash is the only they really plan on keeping..
I am concerned about subltle tweaking of Flash that might occur. Adobe has a tendency to "complicate" things. I can just see them trying to "improve" Flash with some of the abobe-isms that make Photoshop not particularly intuitive (like Fireworks).
I wouldn't be suprised if actionscript is changed to abodescript. Better get the adobescript.org URL soon....
skee
argh... spare us that! Oh please dont let them adobe-fy everything...
It seems that theres a consensus that awaiting the next release is like having unprotected sex with a prostitute... Your not really sure what your going to get... :D
I too am a little worried about all of this. For me personally, the release of Studio8 was one last attempt for Mecomedia to make their bucs before dissapearing off the face of the planet.
May God have mercy on our souls...

That was freaking funny...the worst part is, its 100% true...

Wow I didn't realize they were just going to kill the Macromedia name that fast. I wonder if they eventually will just remove that site and tie it all into the adobe website.
This is most likely the end of flash as we know it....this isnt going to turn out well...
Yeah. That was rather quick getting the Adobe logo there.
It was almost like walking into an empty house with some of the furniture removed. Weird feeling... Or like when your house was burgled... and all thats left was the dust from under the couches where you never sweep!
The good news is that flash will continue to be flash....a friend's friend works for macromedia, or soon will have worked for.....according to her, flash and its developers are staying....lets hope they stick to that.

Do you think Adobe will acquire AS[org], and kind of turn it into a communist regime, only letting certain post appear.
Acceptable topics include:
Preloader doesn't show
How to write a file
Email
For loops
Unaccetable topics:
Why is actionscript gone? I liked having dynamic stuff.
Why can't Flash import pdf's anymore?
Does Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen live an "alternative life style".

We could always riot...storm the Adobe corporate offices, kidnap the flash developers, and hide them in south america.....then flash will be saved..
