View Full Version : Projector getting corrupted??

So I have this large project that I need to have work on both PC and Mac platforms. Because of the size of it, it needs to be delivered as a zipped file (with linked .flvs, .swfs, etc). I also need to include them as projector files, so I have published both the mac projector as well as the pc projector.

Once everything is ready to go, I zip all the files and place them on the site, but when I download them (to make sure things are working), the Mac projector file does not work (PC Projector works just fine).

On OS X (10.4), it will show up with the generic application icon as opposed to the Flash Projector icon, and when I double-click, it tries to open the Classic environment (os 9). Problem is, it simply won't open on either system (9 or 10). Again, I've double-checked that BOTH projector files are working correctly before uploading them, but for some reason, the Mac projector get "corrupted"???

Anyone have any ideas? I could really use some help on this one.

Thank you much!

If it's the .hqx file, that is actually a compressed archive itself, you'll need to decompress it before you can launch the projector...

Yup, on every mac. And nope, it's not the .hqx file. Once decompressed, the projector file simply has a generic Application icon, but doesn't work.

When uploaded, the file works perfectly.

Any other clues?

Well, for anyone who's interested:

I'm using Allume's StuffIt to compress the projector file, so I went to preferences and clicked on "Preserve Macintosh content." This seems to have corrected the issue, however when uncompressing on a PC, it creates a new folder called "_MACOSX" alongside the projector file.

I found this problem also. After zipping my project and uploading it in the server for a client to download, I discovered that something had corrupted my .exe file, since it would not work correctly after the zip was decompressed.

I tried many different compression methods [even used .rar] and the problem persisted.

Been using Flash for a long time, but this is the first time I've encountered such problem... Any toughts?

Using a Windows XP PC.

I'm not sure how it works on a PC file. The problem I encountered was only with a Mac projector file. Sorry. Let me know if you figure it out though (for future reference).

Thanks!

Updated info... Seems the problem is either with the projector itself or with the external xml file that lists the slideshow images: some corruption occurs when it is uploaded/downloaded.

It's not the zipping process but the uploading/downloading process that causes this. I've tried uploading the entire project folder and the same issue occurs.

I've googled and it seems there are other people reporting the same thing...

I just realized I never posted the solution to this:

The problem lies in that Mac files have resource fork files associated with every file. The solution is simply to set your compression utility to preserve ALL Mac content when it compresses.

This will take care of the projector getting "corrupted" after download.
