Standalone player doesn’t work

I uninstalled Flash 8 player to see if a plug-in detector is working. I reinstalled Flash in my browsers - Mozilla v1.0.7 and Internet Explorer v6 SP2. I also installed the standalone player - supposedly successfully. The player works fine in the browsers, but when I try to play a .swf (ie. click on it in one of my folders) it doesn’t work – I get “Windows can’t open this file”. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of times, restarted my computer, etc. – still nothing. Basically it only works through the browsers and Flash Professional 8. I’m using Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Could it be the files you are trying to open or is it everything?

in your configuration panel -> folder options -> file types you can associate .swfs with the player.
not sure of the exact names, I'm french and under windows 2000 :)
