Hi,

O.K. This is almost certainly a completely stupid question, but....

I've noticed hundreds of queries about blurred text on this and other forums. I've been trying it myself, via photoshop, as individual letters and then constructing them as words in the flash file. Then something occured to me.

Is there any reason at all that you can't just acquire some font creation software, take whatever font you want to blur, and create a new font, with the blur effect? So, create a new font, called 'arial blur' for example, that's identical to arial but the characters are blurred.

You're not infringing on copyright because you're not distributing the font.

This seems so easy there's got to be some thing wrong with the idea. Hasn't there?

cheers.

if you want blurry text in flash just use any font at 8 pt hehehe;)

umm in terms of your idea wouldnt you have to create numerous fonts with various levels of blur or would you just jump from sharp to blurred?

Which effect are you talking about? The sort of motion blur thing with text flying in all blurred and comes to a stop and is sharp?

cheers

Hi,

I guess I'm just talking about any kind of font effect that you can usually apply in photoshop or something of the kind. I just used blur as an example, because that's what I've been doing. I wasn't particularly going as far as how the text might be introduced, or whether you would want it to focus or not.

To speculate further, I suspect the most file size efficient way of achieving that effect is to have the text blurred, in the same position as non blurred text, and fade in the non-blur whilst fading out the _alpha on the blur.

The major point here is that font sizes would not need to be redone, because the effect would not be applied to the text, the blur would be the font character itself, and so therefore all size changes, kerning leading etc. would all be available.

Trouble is I haven't got any font creation software that will allow the import of graphics. There must be some because someone came up with Zapf Dingbats (curse them). Everything I've found authors the font shape immediatly inside the software.

cheers.
