View Full Version : How best to embed large quicktime at high quality?

My first post, how exciting!

I'm preparing content (jpegs and swfs) that will load into a projector presentation. I'm embedding quicktime movies into swfs and am having some problems with file size - the .flas and .swfs are much larger than the original quicktime movies.

I have tried reducing quality to 95% and am getting uneven results. With an 11mb .mov this worked great, the published .swf was about the same size as the quicktime. But large quicktime movies imported at 95% quality result in huge flash files.

Any tips on import settings? For the web, I've always klutzed my way through the import wizard settings and have been happy enough with the results. But now my goal is to keep the quality of the embedded quicktimes as high as possible.

I'm working in MX 2004 professional.

Here are settings/results for three tests...

import settings (same for all):
-----------------
quality: 95%
keyframe: 1
sync to flash: deselected
quick compress: deselected
frames to encode: 1:1

scale: 100%
audio track: Integrated
-----------------

results:
-----------------
original quicktime1 =
720x480
Millions (colors)
30 fps
11'09 (duration)
11.5 mb

-results-
.fla 30 fps = 12.2mb
.swf (audio publish settings: Raw, 44kHz, mono) = 11.9mb

-----------------
original quicktime2 =
320x240
Millions
15 fps
29'30
49.5mb

-results-
.fla 15 fps = 449.6mb
.swf (audio publish settings: Raw, 44kHz, mono) = 445.7mb

-----------------
original quicktime3 =
720x480
Millions
30 fps
4'59
78.25 mb

-results-
.fla 30 fps = 360.6mb
.swf (audio publish settings: Raw, 22kHz, mono) = 345.1mb

I found a couple old posts that touch on this issue, but not in any detail.
Any guidance with this is much appreciated.

I find it hard to believe I've stumped everyone. Perhaps my question was poorly stated. Here it is again:

I want to embed quicktime at highest possible quality without bloating the swf way beyond the size of the original quicktime.

The swfs will be playing locally (loaded into a projector).

See above for some import tests I did.

I'd be grateful for any help at all.
