does anyone know a good AS code to open a file externally.. like I want to display a picture, thats bigger than my canvas.. is there a code to open that file??
Depends on the file....JPG's and certain documents can be opened with just getURL("file.jpg);...others require a more detailed work around...There are a few tools out there for this, just dont remember them off the top of my head.

Only Flash 8 has the ability to load PNGs dynamically...

Open them in Flash or outside of Flash...I thought the question was open them outside of Flash..

Alittle extra information never hurt anyone before..well...except when its a woman talking...but I'll leave that alone...

What if i want to open a document, but a Non-editable Document.. like a "picture" so-to-speak- of a paper.. im doing all this for a project.. incase you're thinkin "WTF would he need all this for?" lol...
and for the PNG.. I dont want it to open in IEX, because it does the BS active x script prompt, and i dont want a wait time.. is there a way i can open it through.. say... Windows picture and Fax veiwer?? either that or a similar program that views pictures, not edits them.
Crap, I came across a tool that open files in their default applications...I found it on google...I dont remember what search terms I used either.. Something like "Flash open file in application"
