I like it. It is clean and simple but I would like to se faster moving of pages andI dont think that you need pink.
Everything else is just fine!

cheers for the feedback - I only used pink to add some colour to it
pink was fashionable a while back so figured it was woth a shot and plus my colour choices are pretty rubbish
any more comments?

nice start but seems to be a fair bit of wasted space...will the fat column next to the menu ever be used for anything?
the welcome 2 designreel.com type needs some work...spacing seems unbalanced
be nice if the current button deactivated and changed colour to show the user where they were located
be nice if the logo glow had a subtle animation or something
be nice if the vertical lines and columns were utilised more in the transitions
hope that helps

thanks billy actually helps loads - its always good to get opinions
I want going to use the fat column next to the menu for anything really just got where the fade of the menu text appears - wanted to use empty spave to keep things clean however thinking about it I might add something just not that good at overall design so dont want to screw it up
"be nice if the logo glow had a subtle animation or something" - hmmmmm might try that out too
"be nice if the vertical lines and columns were utilised more in the transitions" - might look into this as I need to think of how I want tehj portfolio to be displayed
Cheers
keep them coming

I would speed up the transition and leave the main menu always accessible (move it to the left during transition to make more room). When looking at a piece, have quick links to other work so the user doesnt have to keep going back

hmmmmmm cheers billy thats what I was thinking about having it so that the menu is always accessible - just trying to work out how to display the portfolio so that is still the case hmmmmmm
I think I might be better off including the individual portfolio sections within the actual sliding pages - although that will increase file size and them if someone is on the last link of portfolio work and they click home it'll scroll for quite a while...
hmmmm I need to have a sliding page where the portfolio work would be and then have some sort of loader which will load individual .jpgs of the portfolio images within the sliding pages or something
ARGH I can see myself getting confused with the preloader
Also Flash do me a favour - give me a link to your site or pieces that you have made - and tell me what you would charge the average client based on your work i.e. what you charged the client for each piece...and we'll go from there as there is work coming in
Cheers

Overall look is great!
But I do think it looks a bit unbalanced. To little stuff on the left and too much on the right maybe. Or just move the logo a little bit down.
Don't get me wrong I like it, there's just something that bothers me bit, I'm not quite sure what it is.

Yeah I get what you mean - I'm going to put some more bits and bobs on the site - weird little animations or something just try and balance things out a bit more...as soon as I've got the bulk of it done and I know that it functions well
Cosmetics are easier to add and change - even tho I don't have a design bone in my body in comparision to making the thing work - which usually takes me a bit more time
although its a learning experience and trust me I've learnt LOADS!

with all the talk of unbalanced, I just don't see it. I really like the design. You have a knack for design very sleak looking things. I really like it. Sometimes it is kool to have things "off center"
Suggestion: you could cut the background into a tiny piece and make it just repeat x: and not y. It will load faster.
Also, click here to launch doesn't work.

Flash I heard about the bground cutting it up so it loads wuicker...how does that work exactly - as the image is a gradient so it doesn't flow therefore if I cut it up it wouldn't line up right?
Also how would I get it so that it repeats x and y?
all i know how to do is make flash sites - fully flash and then drop them into a HTML bground

When you select an option in the portfolio section, the link you selected remains active when the content loads over it. Move the mouse pointer around over the white area to the left of the photo of the girl, you'll see what I mean.
Other than that, good job! Keep it up :)

hey guys
about the problem outlando spotted:
"When you select an option in the portfolio section, the link you selected remains active when the content loads over it. Move the mouse pointer around over the white area to the left of the photo of the girl, you'll see what I mean."
I'm struggling to stop that happening - as the button that is causing the problem is within the sliding page - I can't take the sliding page out of that section of the movie as if I do when the user closes the portfolio section the sliding page will slide back to the "about" section - instead of returning to the portfolio main section which there were at (sliding page portfolio section)
I tried another way which was to add a solid colour over where the buttons would be to block them on the layer above the sliding pages - but that didn't work either
I have a feeling this is going to be a tricky one...hope somebody can help to solve this issue

have you tried to use the prop Button.enabled=true/false?
add yourBtn.enabled=false to the code on the buttons link you have, then when you close the portfolio enable them again (code iof the big X button)
makes any sense?

WOOHOOOOOOO problem solved
Guys I had a quick question:
on my site http://www.new.designreel.com
I have a HTML bground - at the moment the dimensions of the .jpg are something like 1024 x 768 - so obviously with a slow connection the user wouldn't see the bground for a while
I've heard that there is a way of doing it so that the .jpg image gets tiled therefore you're actual jpg file can only be 1px X 1px
however as this bground is a gradient fill the image wouln't flow even if it was tiled - is there a way around this
if not...what dimensions should I be setting the bground .jpg as?
