Here's a strange one for you. At the end of this year or the start of next I'll be jetting off to Europe for a bit of a site-seeing tour. I'm a bit concerned about what I'm going to eat though. Sound strange? Well I'm allergicc to wheat and dairy so that means no pasta, no bread, no sausages, nothing with butter or milk, etc. and from my limited experience of German and Italian food I'm concerned I'm not going to be able to find anything to eat!
So, if you live in either location, or know a lot about the culture, can you make some meal suggestions? Can you get just meat and veg in Italy or is all pasta?
Also, anyone with ideas on where I should visit in Germany, let me know. I'll have about two weeks.

the germans just eat sausages - no just kidding i aint sure bout them.

when i went to italy peeps seems to eat a pasta dish, then a meat dish and not both mixed in 1 meal. im sure whichever of the 2 countries u go to bud u will be able to get waht u want to eat.

i wouldn't worry bout it.

so ur not comin to london?

german - berlin wall (or where it was)

italy - gotta go venice, milan is real kewl and u gotta go to rome to see st pauls and the vatican (if dats how u spell it). absolutely wicked

Nah my better half is coming along also. That's why I didn't ask where to go in Italy because she loves the place and knows it backwards.

Hey Jesse - apperently the Frankenjura rock formations are beautiful. I'm not sure exactly which bit of Germany they are in but it's apparently pretty spectacular. Probably Nothing like our Grampians though!
Cheers,

Hi Jesse,

You may have an easier time in Italy with the dairy allergy than in Germany. However, that said, you still shouldn't have a problem - esp. in the larger cities. It's been ages since I've been in either place, but I'm positive that you'll find veg restaurants. Sometimes you just need to get off the beaten path, tho. :)

Check Lonely Planet. I think the url is creative, like www.lonelyplanet.com. lol! Anyway, they have very active forums with peeps who travel all over all the time. Someone there may even have specific recommendations for good eats.

Have fun

Jesse, you can't miss Castle Neuschwanstein, in Germany. If you didn't know, it is the castle that Disney modelled the Sleeping Beauty Castle after. King Ludwig (I think) is the one who had it built, nearly ran the country into bankruptcy. (perhaps he did?) It is located near the Germany/Austria Border. Gorgeous country. As for the Food in Germany, well... Have you thought of a strictly Liquid Diet? :) Even though they eat alot of sausages, and breads. You shouldn't have a problem finding stuff you can eat there. It's a food-loving country.

And I don't have any information on Italy.

You should be able to find some restaurants in Italy that serve wheat/gluten-free pasta. Ask at tourist offices they should be able to direct you to the right restaurants.
