Hey guys, please check out my new site. (http://www.BirdInTheCity.com)
Any feedback you can provide would be extremely helpful. It's definitely still a 'Beta version' at this point, so please let me know of any problems you run into.
Also, please let me know whether or not the back button integration works on your machine. I tried to follow the back button tutorial on here (http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials/intermediate/Enabling_a_back_button_within_flash/index.shtml), but it seems to me that the back button only functions correctly with Firefox at this point. Is it working for IE users?
...And more importantly, anyone know how to get it to work? ;-)
General usability feedback would also be extremely helpful. I am probably going to be adding an HTML version soon, but I want the Flash site up and running first.
thanks in advance,
Brian Bird

awsome site - I love the navigation - works really well. Can I ask if the animation of the products falling from the vending machine was done in flash?
Really Cool site!!

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the compliments. I actually created both the vending machine and the indivdual bags in 3D Studio Max. Then, I rendered short video clips of each and imported them into flash. All in all, the process was pretty exhaustive, but I am pleased with the results. :)

very nice 3D work, I want to get into it but like you its very exhaustive. I don't have the time or the patience for it :D

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the nice words! I was thinking about creating a tutorial illustrating how I created it, but then I figured that it very case-specific and it really isn't that applicable to other types of sites.
Cheers.
Brian
PS Do you guys know of any good link exchanges for Flash sites like mine? I want to get it out there but I don't really know how.

link exchanges are evil, search engines caught on to those and now on some search engines it actually will hurt your ranking.

I think your site is an excellent example of what Flash should be used for. You thought inside the vending machine and it proved to be an engaging vehicle for navigation.
As a student in Flash, your site is both inspiring and highlights how much I have to learn. Shock and awe, baby -
Your site shows great artistry.
Cheers,
Holly
Since you requested the feedback I did want to mention that the back button worked within Safari.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, you guys rule! ;)
Any criticisms/thoughts on improvements I can make?
I think I am going to try and add a new intro page, that displays my availability for freelance graphics/interactive work. Hopefully, I'll get around to the "About me" section sometime soon. 0:-)
Cheers,
Brian

Good stuff! I like the 3D, nicely done. And good idea too the vending machine...
The only crit is: I think some of the design of individual pages don't match up well enough. (missing unity) And it's not clear what you do when viewing your website at first glance.
This vendingmachine thingy is a great concept imo, lots of potential! Maybe you could make everything more dynamic, more surprise or variation in the layout.

Some of those logos look dangerously similar.

hmm... do you think I could get in trouble for "appropriating" their labels?
