Clean/Professional or Grungy/Creative??

Hey,

I'm trying to deside upon a background design for my site. The first link is simple, clean and proffessional, but the site is a portfolio and i'm trying to show off my creativity. So, the second link is a little bit grungier and artistic, but still fairly minimilistic. Tell me what you think! Depending on which look i go for, i will make corresponding changes to the site that have the same look, so after i decide, it will be quite painful to go back and change things if i decide it was a bad idea.

I'm totally into minimalism, but I have to say that I prefer the look of the second link. It does show off a lot without being overbearing. Very nice.

Perhaps if you're concerned that the grungy look is not professional enough that you could make it a bit more pristine and yet still detailed?

its not my style, but i like the second one...first just looks empty. I like the old wall like effect you gave it there.
but...in any case, which ever you pick, if you want to make it look a bit more professional...try to make/get different icons, they just dont match the style.

Definetly the second one.....though I would lose the spinning logo in the center. I'd suggest an orb effect with smoke raising in the background of the orb..but thats just me.

i think the only reson i dont think the second one would be better is because of that blue in the middle i dont think it fits well maybe just making it a dark dark grey would work and i think it has more chariture

also i like the spinny logo an orb is retro and wouldnt be a good idea in my opinion

If you were to change nothing else than I would go with the first one. It all matches and looks very clean cut.

For the second one the spinning logo doesn't look that great with the blue fuzz around it. Perhaps make it a bit more three dimensional and metallic? Also the icons would need work to match the background for the circle.

I would pick the second one if my life were on the line. It exudes creativity and cleverness.

Thanks veggie! i felt the same thing as you with the blue stuff before i checked the post and now theres a light grey texture instead.

so you guys think the icons should be more cartoonish or simplier or should they even represent what they lead to? For instance a square, a circle, a triangle, etc. Any suggestions?

i would say that the ones you have dont match your spinning logo style, and that they are too big, they fit to tight in the cells a bit more of space would be nice...

ya no problem one more hint of advice for the grungy take some of that black grungy stuff off the metalish circle or maybe lower its opacity and i think that would also improve but the middle looks good now :D
