Drawing curved line

Hi all,

Very simple question but its driving me mad.
I need to draw a curved line using timeline tweens.
If it was a straight line it would be easy with a short line then further along a longer line and a shape tween in the middle, but curved ?

I have an exampled of what I need to do.

It is simple. Just create a mask layer and tween the mask.

Which is what I thought, is there a better way of doing this.

I have an idea only that it can be done by making the same line a mask for itself... and then using tweening can be done... but I have never done this before ... thats why I was asking for it....:)
