i have to build a flash site that is in English, chinese, japanese and french. the text files for English are easy enough, but what happens with chinese text, or japanese text (i can't read or speak anything other than English) ?
i would like the site to be simple to update and change, that's why i am avoiding using .gifs of the text in other languages.
does anyone know how multiple languages work in flash?
may be may be not depends on the software (writing software) you have. no guarantee.

Also, the viewer MUST have font support on his/her machine. If not, the text will change into cubes. I believe Director has native support for asian ime. Perhaps u can include the needed fonts ?

also if you look at this link in the macromedia site, it says:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/player/ie55_final/
but what are behaviours? how do you use them? is there a better reference than the macromedia site?
also, does this mean that the characters , chinese, japanese, are *in* the flash or just in the web page??
i am assuming that the user has fonts in the language of their choice...i just have to make it show up.
i've seen a few sites with chinese/japanese text and it didn't look like they were graphics...they looked like actual text boxes. That's why i'm curious, as i don't have any chinese fonts installed on my computer (just the text display for IE 5.5)

Behaviours ... In director they are scripts that add certain ... behaviours ... to sprites. I belive in Flash they are called smartclips...
You need the font to be able to view the asian type. I know that Windows 2k for example can be set to natively support such fonts ...
Its not a flash thing, but an OS thing. If you have the font and the support ... its viewable, if not ... you're outta luck and will get squares ... Its a frustrating thing really
Hi,
This is part of loads of bumf I got posted to me fom MM about Flash MX (Haven't they ever heard of email? L.O.L.):
......Flash MX now supports 11 languages with full Unicode support. This is important for anyone planning on displaying multiple languages in Flash movies as you no longer need to embed font outlines. The new vertical text features now allows text to be displayed from top to bottom which is critical for Asian languages such as Japanese.
ooooooooooooooooooo, I'm so excited :D
Then again, what's the betting the demand's too great and the download section at MM crashes?
cheers.
