Is it possible to use Actionscript 3.0 with Flash 8 (and of course, the Flash Player 8.5)?
Or is Actionscript 3.0 limited to Flex 2.0 beta?

You have to use Flex, and only the 8.5 player

what you can do is create all your assets in flash 8 and then use them in a normal actionscript or flex project in flexbuilder2 via the embed tag, unfortunatly you are not able to compile a swf from the flash ide at this stage that supports AS3

From Adobe, you have to buy Flex 2 builder or upgrade your Flash 8 to Flash 9.
From open source community, you could try haXe compiler, it will almost 'support' AS3, but not AS3 in fact. Of course, several months later after Flex 2 shipping.:D

That's why I said 'several months later after Flex 2 shipping'. ;)
