Hi Everyone

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this (it's a little off topic), but I couldn't think of where else to put it. So here goes:

How long does it usually take for a domain name, once expired, to become available again for purchase? A friend of mine no longer wants a domain and let it expire in November. I would like to register for it, however it's still listed as unavailable! We tried going through the hell of transferring it, however the dang thing needs to be paid in full, then we pay transfer fees. It just seemed to make more sense to wait it out.

I'm curious if anyone has experience with this, could give me pointers, or tips on what to expect for a timeframe.

Thanks
Karen

is supposed that you have to wait a month (in working days count) before the domain gets free, if its from a friend , you can try to buy it from him directly(pay as if you where him) then do the legal stuff...this stuff is always messy.

In my work , just to transfer the property of a domain from us to a client took almost 3 months:o .

Good luck!!

Thanks Zoomfreddy. I really thought it would be a month too, but it's going on 4 months, and no sign of becoming available. :(

It's just for a small, silly website, so I want to go to as minimal an expense as possible. I already have the .com version of the thing (which is what I'm developing), but the old .org version is the one I'm waiting for. The .org version is linked all over God's creation and for now all people get is a dreaded "page not found". I'd love to put up a redirect.

Thanks again
Karen

We had it set up that way, and it was working great. But now, the domain expiration finally caught up with us.

Meaning, the site is off the air, but STILL not available for repurchase. :( Which is why I'm asking about timing.

Thanks for replying. Do you have any sense of how long this typically takes?
