Masking problems

Hey, I'm trying to create a shine effect on a samurai sword I hastily sketched together. I thought that a simple mask on the the shine layer would do the trick but it doesn't. What probably simple thing am I forgetting? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

P.S. (zipped .fla file is made in Flash MX 2004 v.7)

That's what I've done so far. I want the shine effect to go down the blade, but as I've said, I can't get it right.

Did it very quickly, so it's not as good as it could be... But you need to copy your source as the mask itself...
